Children’s House Lead Teacher



Bay Farm Montessori Academy (BFMA) is an accredited, independent Montessori school for toddlers through eighth grade.  Together with parents, the faculty and staff are professionals who work together to instill in our students a love of learning and a respect for others and the natural world.



All faculty and staff must have the ability to:



  • Work collaboratively, positively, and professionally with all staff

  • Establish a rapport and build relationships with students and families based on trust

  • Set an excellent example for students by modeling honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, respect, love, and kindness

  • Build positive relationships with families

  • Multitask, keep calm under pressure, and treat everyone with respect

  • Maintain a positive attitude, flexibility, and a good sense of humor

  • Display excellent planning, communication, and organizational skills

  • Display strong conflict resolution skills

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment

  • Understand technology commensurate with program level requirements

  • Maintain the confidentiality of the school’s students, family, and staff

  • Display curiosity and desire to grow professionally

  • Train in, become familiar with, or be willing to learn about Montessori education

  • Follow all policies and procedures of the school as written in the employee and parent handbooks



Montessori Lead Teacher Responsibilities (include, but not limited to):



  • Promote and advance the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being of students by directing them to activities in a prepared Montessori environment that challenges all children to reach their fullest potential

  • Create and maintain a safe, clean, peaceful, and stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued

  • Observe, guide, supervise, and assess children patiently while they learn 

  • Develop lesson plans, independent learning exercises, curricula, and methods that keep in mind the needs of the individual child and whole-group dynamic

  • Create Montessori materials for all areas of the classroom



  • Ensure the classroom, lessons, and materials foster diversity and inclusion



  • Keep a well-prepared and organized classroom with regular material and activities rotating throughout the year

  • Meet regularly with team teacher(s) for planning weekly/monthly lessons, reviewing children, revitalizing/revising classrooms

  • Set up and clean classroom at the beginning/end of the school year

  • Share in the responsibilities of classroom management, maintenance, and toileting

  • Monitor and assess student progress to track mastery; write up progress and conference reports in a timely manner

  • Accompany students on off-campus excursions

  • Adequately prepare students for their next level of learning through the delivery of a Montessori and best practices curriculum.

  • Participate in meetings and reviews for students with special needs

  • Participate in parent conferences and meetings throughout the school year, communicate with parents in accordance with school policy, and promote the school’s mission, objectives, and policies to parents

  • Provide assistants with a clear description of their duties and support their growth

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and modeling to the assistant(s) in the classroom

  • Ensure the entire team feels valued and understands their role in the classroom

  • Provide assistants with the opportunity to grow and learn

  • Work collaboratively with administrators and other faculty to ensure a harmonious and positive experience for all communities within the school

  • Keep administration apprised of issues or problems involving students, parents, or other staff members

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and school events

  • Maintain EEC credentials and knowledge of EEC guidelines

  • Maintain proper AMS credentials for program level

  • Work collaboratively with administrators, school counselor, and teaching team in situations where mandated reporting is warranted

  • Establish an annual budget and manage finances accordingly

  • Order materials for classroom

  • Stay abreast of best-learning practices and developmentally appropriate milestones for students

  • Participate in the admissions process for prospective and transitioning students

  • Write articles for weekly emails and quarterly newsletters

  • Understand the school’s mission and objectives and comply with policies



All Children’s House Lead Teachers report to the Children’s House Level Coordinator, who reports to the Director of Education, who reports to the Head of School.



REQUIREMENTS:



  • Montessori 3-6 certification

  • EEC certification as a Preschool Lead Teacher

  • Annual CPR/First Aid certification

  • Maintain 20 hours of professional development annually

  • Minimum of one year experience teaching 3 to 6-year-old children in a Montessori environment

  • Clear background check

  • Patience, warmth, organization, and strong communication skills

  • A desire for ongoing learning about teaching, children, and education
