Mortgage Underwriter

Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter responsible for underwriting all mortgage loans in accordance with agency, program, and investor guidelines. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills and a commitment to accuracy in the underwriting process.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite mortgage loans to ensure compliance with agency, program, and investor guidelines.
• Maintain availability for incoming calls to address questions and issues, prioritizing email communication when necessary.
• Collaborate with Mortgage Loan Originators (MLO) and Loan Processors (LP) to resolve issues efficiently.
• Minimize errors by managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks during the underwriting process.
• Utilize the underwriting desk email queue to respond to scenario questions and documentation inquiries.
• Communicate with the operations manager when immediate assistance is required and the underwriter is unavailable.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Experience/Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years mortgage lending experience.
• Minimum of 3 years appraisal review experience.
• Minimum of 5 years credit review experience.
• Should be proficient in Adobe, Excel, Word, basic internet applications.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly organized and able to quickly prioritize job requirements as needed.
• Expected to have complete understanding of the RESPA/TILA/TRID rules as well as all knowledge of regulatory guideline requirements as it pertains to Mortgage Lending.
• Manage not less than 30 new files per month reviewed.
• Maintain turn times of not less than 72 hours for initial review and 48 hours of resubmissions.

Essential Mental & Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions. 
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
• Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
• Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 15 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division any “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
