The key purpose of this position is to underwrite, analyze and decision mortgage loan applications, in accordance with organizational standards, as well as all applicable state and federal rules and regulations as it relates to the lending product being decisioned. The primary loan types that will be underwritten by this position will be mortgage loans.

Contribution to Credit Union Goals
Ensure the safety, security, and accuracy of information related to the operations of the Credit Union as it is owned by the people who conduct business with us.
Ensure that information provided to Owners, Regulatory Agencies, the Management Team, and the Board of Directors accurately reflects the business of the Credit Union in serving the Owners and our community.
Essential Duties
Underwrite all San Antonio Citizens Federal Credit Union mortgage products to applicable guidelines to ensure compliance with Fannie Mae/SACFCU policies.
Ensure all documentation required for loan product is valid and obtained prior to issuing final approval on a loan/funding.
Review all loan files for potentially fraudulent activity or any other potential red flags.
Develop and maintain an effective level of product knowledge.
Maintain continuing education on Federal and State Regulations and stay in compliance in all situations.
Deliver on the Credit Union' Service Promises in every service situation.
Provide prompt, professional, helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous member service.
Answer questions effectively and provide information as requested.
Answer member calls to the mortgage department ring group.
Complete daily mortgage lending related tasks as directed.
Process mail as required.
Process loan paperwork once a loan officer has made the initial loan approval to ensure compliance with guidelines/procedures of the Credit Union.
Tell new members and potential members about our SACFCU products and services and how the member will benefit from these products & services.
Create opportunities for expanded member relationships by determining member needs for additional products and services.
Verify that property taxes and homeowner's insurance are paid/up to date for all mortgage loan accounts/applications.
Perform certain specialized clerical functions as required.
Be a visible presence in the local community. Promote the credit union and gain leads through participation in business, community, chamber, and charitable organization activities as assigned.
Security/Compliance
Ensure compliance with all Credit Union policies and procedures.
Possess a working knowledge of the Federal Lending Regulations, particularly related to mortgage lending.
Must complete all BSA training annually with a passing minimum score of 80%.
Other Duties
Assist in any area as directed by management.
Develop an understanding of Credit Union history, philosophy, organization, by-laws, and operational procedures.
Attain a working knowledge of the Credit Union's electronic data processing system.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Critical thinking skills.
5-7 years' experience underwriting, with a strong credit, collateral, and risk analysis background.
Ability to manage high volume workload.
Knowledge of mortgage lending regulations.
Appraisal review and tax return analysis.
Understanding of TRID, RESPA, and predatory lending.
Proficient using LOS systems.
Must be dependable, punctual and a solutions-oriented team player.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
5 - 7 years of mortgage underwriting experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to sit for an extended period.
Must be able to utilize/view a monitor for extended period.
Must frequently use a keyboard to enter data.
