Summary:
The MOT Traffic Controller Trainee performs duties under the mentorship of a traffic coordinator to familiarize with traffic control/maintenance for highway construction operations. The Trainee would also familiarize with basic tasks of road construction operations as needed in conjunction with traffic duties. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Sets up cones, signs and safety barriers to indicate where traffic may safely drive in accordance with ATSSA and company policy,
•    Work with construction personnel to provide safety to traffic and pedestrians seeking passage through a work zone,
•    Utilizes hand-held signs to stop or slowly flow traffic through the work zone,
•    Loading and unloading equipment from the company vehicle,
•    Informs drivers of detour routes through construction sites,
•    Gives hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for Flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic, 
•    Must wear proper attire at all times including: safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image,
•    May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
•    Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
•    High School Diploma or GED equivalent,
•    Must be a DC resident,
•    Must possess less than one year of Traffic Controller – Flagger experience,
•    Must be 18 years of age or older,
•    Must be able to obtain a Traffic Control Flagger’s card within 3 months of one’s date of hire,
•    Must be able to successfully complete First Aid/CPR training programs within 3 months of one’s date of hire,
•    Must possess a valid and current driver’s license,
•    Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions: 
•    This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist, 
•    Must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job for long periods of time,
•    This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces,
•    This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts),
•    This job requires the ability to perform essential tasks in less than favorable job conditions, 
•    Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time,
•    Exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
