Motor Vehicle CDL Specialist I

Overview

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a team player to join the Driver Control (DC) unit.

Duties may include viewing driving records, processing suspensions, compliances, and reinstatements. The Specialist will be responsible for processing Commercial Drivers License (CDL) applications as well as DOT medical examiner certificates. The position will also be responsible for working and updating AAMVA related tasks.

This is a unique position in which you will interact with Vermonters on a daily basis, and the ability to provide excellent written and verbal communication is required. Due to the nature of the position, difficult, unique, and sensitive issues may be addressed. The individual may have direct customer contact.

This is not a remote position, and work takes place within the Montpelier DMV. The incumbent will work from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the finger-printing and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Applicants will have the right to withdraw their applications before finger-printing and/or a background investigation is conducted. 

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a normal office setting. Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye, from telephone and email inquiries. Due to public contact, verbal abuse, varying workloads and tight deadlines stress induced or contagious illness is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to multi-task, prioritize unpredictable workloads, deal with confused, frustrated, highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Incumbents can anticipate some stressful situations, strong differences of opinion and threat of harm from irate customers. Stress may be involved in coping with large volumes of work and meeting production deadlines. Some overtime work may be required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) or more years of office administrative experience that included significant public contact AND regular use of computer programs.
OR
Six (6) months or more of work experience in the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with prior motor vehicle department experience.
