Mowing Specialist

The Crystal Lake Park District is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Mowing Specialist to join our Parks Department. If you have a passion for turf management, enjoy working outdoors, and take pride in maintaining pristine sports fields and park landscapes, we’d love to hear from you!

The Lippold Mowing Specialist is responsible for the care and maintenance of Lippold Park’s grounds, including mowing, weed control, and seasonal turf upkeep. This role is essential in ensuring that sports fields, open spaces, and landscaped areas remain safe, clean, and visually appealing for community use.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required


• 2+ years of grounds maintenance experience preferred

Licenses & Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance required


• Ability to obtain Illinois Pesticide Operator’s License within one year


• CPR/AED certification preferred

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of mowing equipment and turf management


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team


• Clear communication and strong problem-solving abilities


• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions


• Willingness to work weekends and holidays as assigned

• Maintain and mow sports fields, berms, and landscaped areas


• Trim edges, control weeds, and perform seasonal turf maintenance


• Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as tractors, loaders, and mowers


• Apply weed control in designated areas


• Assist with seasonal tasks like leaf mulching, snow removal, and controlled burns


• Support park beautification and environmental initiatives


• Coordinate mowing schedules with affiliate groups and report maintenance issues


• Train seasonal staff on equipment use and safety


• Fill in for the Mowing Crew Leader as needed

• Frequent sitting, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and equipment operation


• Regular exposure to weather elements and loud equipment noise


• Use of chemicals including fertilizers and herbicides
