Job Description - MRI Technologist (32 hours/week) #3436

Reedsburg Area Medical Center is hiring an MRI Technologist to join our team!



Schedule: Weekdays/day shift


Hours: 32 hours/week

In this position, you’ll operate state-of-the-art MRI equipment, ensure patient comfort and safety, and work closely with radiologists and healthcare teams to deliver accurate and timely results. Position Summary:


The MRI Technologist is under the general direction of the Director of Medical Imaging, with the clinical supervision of the Radiologist and performs MRI examinations, including breast and cardiac exams of patients of all ages for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of patient illnesses. He/she assists the MRI Lead Technologist with policies and procedures and performs other Radiology Department duties as assigned by the Director of Medical Imaging. He/she contributes to the efficient operation of the department, ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care.



Job Relationships
:


Reports to Director of Medical Imaging; collaborates with Lead MRI Technologist, coworkers and other departments.



Primary Customer Served:



  • Pediatric (1 year – 12 years)

  • Adolescent (13 – 18 years)

  • Adult (19 – 65 years)

  • Geriatric (> 66 years)

  • Family/Visitors

  • Physicians

  • Community Agencies

  • Social Work Team



Education and Training Required
:



  • Graduate of a school of Radiologic Technology.

  • BLS certified.

  • Registered by the ARRT.

  • Currently licensed as a Radiographer in the State of Wisconsin.

  • Advanced certification in MRI preferred.



Experience
:



  • At least two (2) years of experience performing MRIs.



Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
:



  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Possesses interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and families.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to use computers, fax machines and possess proper phone skills.

  • Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment.



Physical Requirements
:



  • Physical Demands:

    • Frequently stand, walk and sit.

    • Frequently lift/carry up to 25 pounds when moving patients or supplies.

    • Occasionally may be required to lift/carry up to 50 pounds when moving patients or supplies.

    • Frequently required to push or pull up to 10 pounds when positioning patients.

    • Occasionally required to bend and twist when positioning patients and equipment.

    • Occasionally required to reach overhead.

    • Occasionally involved with using levers, knobs, switches, etc. to use equipment in radiology.



  • Sight:

    • Frequently needs good near and far vision to use computers, equipment and care for patients.



  • Cognition/Communication:

    • Frequently communicates with staff, patients, and other family members using simple writing, reading and math skills.

    • Frequently needs to have good speech and listening skills to communicate with staff, patients, physicians and co-workers via the telephone or directly.



  • Environmental Conditions:

    • Continuously works inside.

    • Frequently will be working in the patient environment.

    • Occasionally may be exposed to fumes/odors with use of processing chemistry and disinfectants.



  • Potential Hazards:

    • Frequently will be exposed to needles, syringes, and sharps.

    • Occasional exposure to infectious blood/body fluids while assisting patients.

    • Occasional exposure to toxic/caustic chemical hazards.

    • Occasional risk due to electrical shock and moving parts (diagnostic x-ray equipment).

    • May be exposed to liquid He if a quench occurs (avoid contact with liquid He).

    • Frequently exposed to a powerful magnetic field.



  • Psychological, Situational, Functional Factors:

    • Frequently will be required to be very flexible in regards to shifts and tasks being performs so the department can function 24/7.

    • Occasionally may be required to work overtime and be on call for the department.

    • Frequently will be required to work alone under stressful situations and be required to problem solve and make decisions without supervision.

    • Occasionally will need to be creative to adapt MRI positions to a patient’s ability to comply.

    • Occasionally will need to perform jobs with accuracy, speed and consistency.

    • Occasionally will be required to manage conflict and difficult situations among coworkers, patients, and patient’s families.
