Position Summary
The Multi-Rip Panel Saw Lead Operator is responsible for the precise cutting and grooving (kerfing) of wood panel products according to production specifications. This role requires mechanical knowledge of the groover machine, the ability to troubleshoot issues and ensure consistent, high-quality output. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying opportunities for process improvement and contribute to a safe, efficient manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate Multi-Rip Panel Saw to produce high-quality kerfed wood panel products.
Set up and break down machine components based on production requirements.
Interpret technical drawings or blueprints to configure blade assemblies for specified kerf profiles.
Conduct regular inspections and perform basic adjustments and preventative maintenance.
Direct team members during setup and throughout the production process.
Monitor equipment and troubleshoot mechanical and product issues as they arise.
Ensure compliance with all company safety rules and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Assist in developing and recommending process improvements to increase efficiency and product quality.
Create and maintain work schedules; assign tasks to production line staff.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Proven experience operating machinery, preferably in a manufacturing or woodworking environment.
Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 70 lbs at or above waist level.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Competent with computers or willingness to learn required systems.
Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Positive attitude and a good sense of humor.
Professional conflict resolution and communication skills.
Work Environment
Regular exposure to wood dust, fumes, and airborne particles.
Frequent work near moving mechanical parts.
Occasional exposure to vibration and risk of electrical shock.
Noise Level: Moderate to Loud.
