The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. · Collaborates with the Pastor, under his supervision, and with other members of the parish staff, integrating his or her own area of responsibility with the overall parish endeavor.
· Directs the parish music program, selects, and plans music in cooperation with the Liturgy Committee for use in parish liturgies (Sundays and Holy Days).
· Collaborates with the Liturgy Committee and with other staff members, e.g., DRE, Youth Minister, RCIA, etc., to coordinate and ensure appropriate music for all parish sacramental celebrations and provides them with consultation and needed assistance.
· Conducts choir practices (e.g., Youth Choir, Parish Choir) twice a week (English & Spanish).
· Recruits new choir members and practices with them.
· Keeps abreast of current developments in liturgy and in music and directs music ministers to available training workshops and formational opportunities.
· Works to foster unity among all parish musicians, and to create a spirit of harmony with the presider and other liturgical ministers.
· Assists with the Music budget.
· Promotes good public relations both within and beyond the parish.
· Recruits qualified cantors, accompanists, and other musicians.
· Provides music for weddings, funerals, and other additional liturgies as requested by the pastor.
• Provides organ and piano music in a professional manner for all masses and all seasonal and special services.
• Provides organ and piano music for weddings and funerals.
• Facilitates the parishioners to sing and worship through the excellent execution of hymns and liturgy.
• Encourages the musical talents and participation of members of the parish through organizing and coordinating special musical offerings, including soloists, instrumentalists, and small ensembles in cooperation with the parish and music committee.
• Arranges for qualified substitute organist or pianist when absent.
• Arranges for organ and piano maintenance with a qualified organ and piano repair person as needed.
· A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in music preferred.
· Three to five years of experience
· Training in choral conducting, organ, and piano.
· Experience in the performance of church music which reflects a broad variety of musical periods and styles.
· Works with current church policies, procedures, and applicable State and Federal laws and regulations.
· Encourages and support lay music leaders and volunteers as required.
· Continues professional and personal growth in music-related and church-related studies.
The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8 -hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
