Variable, based on the course load assigned.

Anticipated start:
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding.

This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2024 through fall quarter 2025.

Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.

Position duration:
Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position description
The Department of Music at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be called upon to teach various performance practice workshops & performing ensembles at the lower- and upper-division course level. We seek applications from outstanding candidates with relevant teaching experience who can teach performing ensembles (e.g., Sundanese/Balinese Gamelan; Jazz Big Band & Combos; Mariachi Ensemble; Wind Ensemble; Ghanaian Drumming Ensemble, etc.) that are specific to the applicant's background, interest, and expertise. We also seek applications from outstanding candidates with relevant teaching experience who can teach performance practice workshops (e.g. North Indian Music Workshop; Songwriting Craft & Practice; Beginning Spontaneous Composition & Improvisation; Music and the Ocean; Hip-Hop Workshop, etc.) that are specific to the applicant's background, interest, and expertise.

Applicants with expertise in college-level teaching experience or who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Music Department's undergraduate and graduate programs (Music Ph.D., D.M.A, and M.A.) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

(required at time of application)
Master's Degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in music; or four years of artistic and creative work consisting of a national and/or international record of performances, exhibitions or installations in music venues, museums, galleries, and festivals, and evidence of scholarship in peer-reviewed journals, web, and/or book publications.
