SUMMARY

The Music Teacher is responsible for creating a dynamic, engaging, and developmentally appropriate educational environment that fosters a love of music and supports the musical, spiritual, and academic growth of all students. The Music Teacher collaborates with administrators, classroom teachers, and staff to implement a comprehensive music curriculum that aligns with both diocesan standards and the mission of Catholic education. This role includes instruction in vocal and instrumental music, liturgical music leadership, and the development of student performances.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate music instruction for students in grades PreK–8, including vocal, instrumental, music theory, music history, and appreciation.
  • Foster a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and the creative expression of music.
  • Prepare and lead music for school Masses, prayer services, and other liturgical celebrations in collaboration with clergy and liturgy coordinators.
  • Organize and direct student performances, such as Christmas programs, spring concerts, and other school or community events.
  • Teach basic instrument instruction (e.g., recorder, percussion, ukulele, or handbells), as applicable.
  • Integrate music with cross-curricular themes and support classroom teachers in school-wide projects.
  • Assess and document student learning using diocesan standards and guidelines.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to accommodate diverse learning styles and musical abilities.
  • Maintain classroom instruments, music materials, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with school administration and faculty to plan and implement school-wide programs and goals.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress, classroom expectations, and upcoming events.
  • Maintain accurate academic and attendance records in accordance with school policies.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, school activities, and ongoing professional development.
  • Complete Catechist Certification Program and Faith Fit Enrichment Certification within required timeframe.
  • Uphold diocesan and school policies, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
     

Requirements

Catholic Faith

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese. 


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field. 
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate or the ability to obtain certification within three years. 
  • Background in liturgical music or willingness to learn and participate in liturgical planning. 
  • Previous experience teaching music to children in a school or church setting preferred

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong musicianship and knowledge of vocal and instrumental pedagogy.
  • Ability to plan and direct choral and instrumental ensembles.
  • Effective communication and classroom management skills.
  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgical music and practices preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to a collaborative team environment and contribute creatively.
