Paws for Purple Hearts (PPH) and Bergin College of Canine Studies (BUCS) are seeking a National Client Manager to support our mission of “Helping dogs help people.” This role serves as the primary point of contact for U.S. Veterans and mobility-limited individuals seeking Service Dogs, Facility Dogs, or Senior Service Dogs.
Working from our global-standard facilities in scenic Canyonville, Oregon, the National Client Manager will guide clients through the entire process—from initial inquiry and application to dog placement and long-term follow-up support. The role plays a vital part in creating successful, lifelong human-canine partnerships that foster independence, trust, healing, and social connection.
This position also supports research, program development, curriculum advancement, and collaboration between PPH and BUCS to continually improve service dog training and placement programs.
Respond to inquiries regarding obtaining a Service Dog or Facility Dog.
Assist prospective clients with understanding and completing applications.
Review and evaluate client applications.
Conduct interviews with potential clients.
Assist with matching clients with appropriate Service or Facility Dogs.
Coordinate and schedule client participation in two-week team training programs.
Arrange travel and housing accommodations for training attendees.
Provide support to clients during training sessions when needed.
Support client-dog teams as they transition into their home environments.
Conduct follow-up evaluations as required by Assistance Dogs International (ADI).
Maintain communication between clients and program staff to ensure ongoing success.
Research and share current best practices related to Service and Facility Dog placements.
Assist with development and updates to team training curriculum, including:
Training schedules and lecture materials
Development or adaptation of Service Dog commands
Integration of evidence-based practices
Ensure program methods align with:
VA/DOD Clinical Practice Guidelines
Assistance Dogs International (ADI) standards
Support the development of research models for Canine-assistant Warrior Therapy (CAWT).
Assist in implementing data management systems.
Help identify measurable outcomes to evaluate program effectiveness.
Contribute to research initiatives that strengthen program funding and grant opportunities.
Maintain accurate client and dog program records in compliance with accreditation standards.
Ensure documentation meets requirements for PPH, BUCS, and relevant regulatory organizations.
Build and maintain networks of stakeholders who support the program.
Develop local and national resource lists for staff and clients including:
Canine care services
Mental health and crisis support resources
Perform other duties as assigned by the President/Chief Executive Officer or Program Supervisor.
