National Medical Director - Primary Care

Our care teams travel directly to patients who reside in Assisted Living, Memory Care and Group Home communities throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida and are supported by clinical operations and administrative colleagues who work remotely or at our corporate offices in Stillwater, Minnesota, and Tampa, Florida.

Position Overview

The National Medical Director plays a critical executive leadership role within the organization, serving as a key driver of clinical excellence, quality, safety, and strategic growth. This position provides direct oversight and performance management for primary care physicians, partners closely with cross-functional leadership, and serves as the Medical Director for the Bluestone ACO.

The ideal candidate will combine strong clinical expertise in complex primary care with operational acumen—driving utilization strategy, optimizing payer and operator partnerships, and championing continuous process improvement.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

1. Clinical Leadership & Team Oversight

• Provide direct oversight, mentoring, and performance management for primary care physicians and medical directors. 


• Support the Complex Primary Care team through active involvement in ongoing clinical process improvement initiatives.

2. Program & Executive Partnerships

• Serve as the Medical Director for the Bluestone ACO programs. 


• Partner closely with the VP of Clinical Practice to align clinical strategy, care models, and clinical governance.


• Participate in payer, vendor, and operator partner relationships and alignment discussions.

3. Regional Utilization & Operational Performance

• Accountable for utilization outcomes, driving alignment with Medical Directors and PCPs to execute market- and practice-level clinical workflows, manage total cost of care, and achieve shared savings goals. 


• Collaborate with the Business Director to ensure effective resourcing for regional utilization strategies.


• Partner with organizational leadership to identify continuous improvement opportunities that enhance clinical outcomes and elevate the patient experience.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience

• Medical Degree (MD or DO) 


• Leadership experience 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge and experience within primary care


• Ability to work independently with excellent time-management and organizational skills


• Ability to maintain professional relationships members of the leadership and provider teams 


• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with diverse populations


• Advanced-level of computer proficiency with email, fax, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

Working Conditions

• Work Environment - This job is a hybrid role of field, office, and remote work. 


• Travel - quarterly travel to other markets
