Job Description - Naval Architect

Full-time

Description

Background check, US Citizenship, confidential security clearance, and a CAC are requirements of this position.

The Naval Architect will serve as a senior technical contributor within TMMG’s Engineering Design Team, providing naval architecture leadership and advanced analytical execution across multiple government and operator-driven programs. This role supports owners, operators, and shipyards by delivering disciplined, configuration-controlled engineering solutions across the full vessel lifecycle—from concept and design development through in-service sustainment and regulatory resolution.

This position is intended for a naval architect who is comfortable operating in technically complex, high-consequence environments involving legacy vessels, evolving requirements, classified interfaces, and direct Navy oversight. The successful candidate understands how to balance technical rigor, operational urgency, security constraints, and business realities while protecting configuration, compliance, and program credibility.

Applicable classified and unclassified Navy guidance

Support development and review of shock analysis packages, including:

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models of foundations, piping systems, and shipboard structures

Modal analysis, mass participation assessment, and dynamic response validation

Engineering responses to Navy Trial Cards and inspection findings

Coordinate secure handling, compartmentalization, and delivery of classified and unclassified shock analysis data in accordance with Navy security requirements

Interface with Navy technical authorities to resolve analysis methodology, presentation format, and approval concerns

Cross-Discipline & Customer Interface

Interface directly with government customers, IT ship operators, classification societies, and shipyards

Collaborate with structural, electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers within EDT

Provide technical oversight and peer review of subcontractor and vendor deliverables

Support drydock planning, trials preparation, post-delivery issues, and operational troubleshooting

Technical Leadership & Business Support

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to establishing and maintaining EDT technical standards and best practices

Support business-facing engineering activities, including:

Technical scope definition and task framing

Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) development

Clear articulation of technical risk, cost, and schedule impacts for leadership and customers

Required Experience & Qualifications

BS or MS in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering

7–20+ years of experience supporting government, military, or operator-managed vessels

Direct experience working with MSC, U.S. Navy, or major IT ship operators

Demonstrated ownership of:

Stability and weight control

Configuration management and engineering baseline control

Technical change adjudication

Experience supporting survivability, shock, or dynamic response analysis is strongly preferred

Strong understanding of:

Naval vessel stability, survivability, and regulatory compliance

Government acquisition processes and configuration control

Proven ability to manage multiple programs and priorities concurrently
