Job Description - Navigator

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc.® (LawNY) has an immediate opening for a Navigator to provide health insurance enrollment assistance to individuals in Monroe and Livingston county through New York’s Health Benefit Exchange. The Navigator will play a critical role in implementing the key Health Benefit Exchange provision of the Affordable Care Act to ensure that all who need health insurance have access to high-quality affordable healthcare coverage. The Navigator will educate consumers about their health insurance options and assist them throughout all phases of the application process for the plan that best suits their needs. The Navigator will also conduct extensive outreach and education for consumers who are eligible for coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The applicant must have the caring, patience, and emotional maturity to help low-income  people overcome crisis situations. 


 


QUALIFICATIONS These are the basic requirements for the position.



  • Bachelor's degree, Associate’s degree, and/or relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to helping poor and disadvantaged people overcome institutional barriers.

  • Experience with data management systems and use of Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite.



COMPENSATION PACKAGE


The beginning salary for a Navigator at LawNY with no experience is $33,670 and the salary for a Navigator with thirty years of experience is $64,620.  Salary will be based on experience. LawNY is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program(PSLF).

  • Excellent writing, research, and communications skills.

  • High competency with computers and related technology, including email, Google Suite, and electronic case management systems.

  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and their impact on the communities we serve.

  • Prior experience with low-income and other oppressed communities and clients.

  • Ability to empathize and sensitively respond to people in crisis situations.

  • Experience with the use of trauma-informed care practices is highly preferred.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) desired, but not required

(LawNY®) is a not-for-profit law firm that provides free civil legal services to low-income clients in a 14 county area of Western New York, the Finger Lakes, and the Southern Tier. LawNY® has seven fully staffed field offices in Bath, Elmira, Geneva, Ithaca, Jamestown, Olean and Rochester, satellite offices in Lakeville and Lyons, and a business office in Rochester.
