Job Summary:
Conducts Radiographic Inspection and or Liquid Penetrant Testing and other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) using specific techniques on aerospace products. Uses knowledge of products, manufacturing processes, equipment set-up, and NDT methods to process parts for inspection following specific operating procedures. Interprets and evaluates test results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review routers, procedures, specifications, drawings and other instructions for completeness and instructions to perform operation
- Process part(s) in accordance with procedures and technical instructions to evaluate for welding, brazing, machining, cold forming, and casting discontinuities exceeding requirements specified
- May work with X-Ray generating equipment and perform radiation area monitoring
- Set-up, operate, calibrate and perform Process Control Checks on NDT equipment by following established instructions and record results
- Interpret, evaluate and report evaluation results as required and outlined
- Fill out required logs and statistical data sheets as required
- Clean equipment and ensures it is working properly, and clean and maintain work area as needed
- Perform other NDT and related processes as qualified for and as required (i.e. Visual inspection, Hydrotest, Pneumatic Test, Swab Etch, etc.)
- Maintain required job skills and knowledge of requirements (including procedures, specifications, etc.)
- Maintain work area, equipment, and all documents/records to be audit ready at all times
- Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) to Level I NDT Inspectors, trainees and fellow Level II NDT Inspectors
- Assist the Level III in developing specific test techniques
- Performs the above and other assigned duties in a safe, quality focused manner
Schedule Options:
- Night (2nd) Shift: 4:30pm-6am, Monday-Thursday - includes 10% pay differential!
Will train on Day (1st) Shift: 6am-4:30pm, Monday-Thursday

Work Environment:
- May be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, smoke (Not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels)
- Safety training and equipment are provided by MPP in accordance with applicable law, industry standards and company policy
- Must be able to work in a radiation monitored and lead products environment (applies to X-Ray only)
- Will be required to wear PPE applicable to the test method being used.
- Able and willing to stand 90% of the time, stooping, bending, stretching, and engaging in awkward positioning.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current or previous certification to NDT Level II in Liquid Penetrant Testing and/or X-Ray in accordance with NAS-410, or able to be certified based on previous training and experience.
- Must have documented hours for Training & Experience per NAS-410
- Level II Liquid penetrant:
- Minimum 32 Hrs classroom training
- Minimum 400 Hrs experience
- Radiographic Testing Level II (either film or non-film (digital) methods):
- Minimum 80 Hrs classroom training
- Minimum 800 Hrs experience
- Both film and non-film methods strongly desired, requiring:
- Minimum 120 Hrs classroom training
- Minimum 1000 Hrs experience
- Documented radiation safety training (applies to X-Ray only)
- For external hires, experience with inspection in the aerospace industry is strongly preferred.
- Utilizes other qualifications or certifications within the department as required by business needs:
- Hydro / Pneumatic pressure testing certification
- Swab Etch Certification
- MRB Disposition Authority
- Able to utilize measuring devices including comparators, micrometers, scales, light meters, radiation survey meters and calipers
- Able to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings and be able to accurately document non-conformances as required
- Successfully pass vision screen
- Ability to speak, read and write English
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a certified NDT Level II in Radiography and/or Liquid penetrant testing desired
- Experience in manufacturing and specifically the aerospace industry strongly desired
- Familiarity with AS9100, NADCAP, and other Quality / NDT auditing / accreditation systems strongly preferred
- Experience in the interpretation of flaws in castings, formed tubing, machined parts, welds and braze joints strongly desired
- Experience with film based and digital/computed radiography (CR) strongly desired (familiarity with GE/Waygate CR systems and software preferred)
- Certification in other NDT methods a plus
- Excellent safety, attendance and punctuality history
- Makes decisions based on experience and available data
- History of meeting or exceeding job requirements

- Flexible in changing priorities
- Produces error free products and accurately completes paperwork
- History of working effectively with co-workers, managers, and other employees in a team environment
- Willingness to cross train in other NDT methods
- Available to work extended or flexible schedule on short notice
- Able to work under general direction with minimal supervision
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in and willingness to train in:
- The NDT method primarily working in and its hazards and limitations (written, practical and physical examinations required for initial qualification/certification and recurring recertification)
- Manufacturing processes (i.e. Brazing, Welding, Casting, Machining & Cold Forming) and defects associated with these processes as they relate to NDT
- Written instructions, procedures, and specifications related to the applicable NDT process(es)
