Job Summary

Seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking leader to drive strong and sustainable growth. As the Associate Managing Director, you will lead, develop, and oversee the overall performance. This role is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction and profitability of multiple underwriting books while managing an individual binding production portfolio. With a balanced focus on leadership and production underwriting, you will dedicate approximately 50% of your time to management responsibilities and 50% to production underwriting and client management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Charleston office team, including underwriters, broker producers, and support staff.


• Drive the dynamic growth of a highly successful and consistently profitable company.


• Oversee team performance management, including training, mentoring, and talent retention.


• Attract and retain top talent through effective hiring and promotion strategies.


• Define and implement successful sales and marketing strategies.


• Build and maintain strong relationships with retail agents and underwriter/broker producers.


• Manage the office's Profit & Loss and ensure alignment with corporate goals.


• Partner with corporate headquarters to ensure seamless operations and support.


• Supervise adherence to underwriting guidelines, corporate policies, and compliance standards.


• Oversee office operations, ensuring consistency and quality in processes such as new business opportunities, renewals, marketing, training, and staffing.


• Build, maintain, and grow a book of business in either Commercial or Personal Lines.


• Rate, quote, and bind risks to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing for large or complex renewals and new business.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.


• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a sales team leader, including direct management experience.


• At least 5 years of multi-line underwriting/production experience, with excess & surplus experience preferred.


• Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and motivate a team.


• Proven ability to develop and manage strong relationships with clients, carriers, and third parties.


• Proficiency in sales and marketing strategies.


• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.


• Insurance license, CPCU, CIC, or comparable designations preferred.
