Job Description - New Job Opening: Director of Business Development in Remote - USA

Job Description

Director of Business Development | United States (Remote)

About the job

You already know the US developers building 60 to 200 MW solar and storage projects. How would it feel to be the person deciding which of them your company goes after next?

Projects in that range sit in an awkward spot. They're too small for the big national EPCs to chase hard, and too big for most regional contractors to take on. This company builds right in that gap. It's a new, pure-play US EPC set up by a large European developer, and it's looking for a Director of Business Development to take its business straight to American developers, IPPs and owners.

Why this one's different

So far, most of its US work has come through European developers already active in the American market. That's kept the order book moving, but it keeps the margin thin. Your job is to change that by building direct relationships with US clients and bringing the projects in yourself.

You won't be starting from a blank page. The company has already delivered projects in Texas and is finishing a 100 MW+ solar-plus-substation build this year, with more US work in contracting behind it. The wider business already builds in Spain, Italy, Germany and Mexico, and estimating and bid pricing run out of its base in Spain, backed by real cost data from US projects. So you'll spend your time with clients instead of on spreadsheets.

You'll also have more to sell than solar. The group has just added a specialist substation and transmission line business, and the plan is to offer high-voltage and T&D work in the US as its own service line, alongside data centre projects.

*What you'll be doing (and why you'll enjoy it)

  • Opening doors with US developers and owners, and turning those conversations into bids worth winning

  • Deciding with the leadership team which opportunities the company goes after, and which it walks away from

  • Helping shape the US commercial side, which is still being set up

Where you'll be doing it

Anywhere in the US. This is a remote role, and the market focus is national, with a lean towards non-union states, so you can put the network you already have to work and grow it into new regions.

Worth knowing upfront: you'll be on the road a lot. This role lives in front of clients, not on video calls. And because the US commercial team is small, you won't have a sales support function behind you on day one. If you'd rather have real influence over how that gets built, that's the trade.

What you'll need

  • 10 to 15 years in renewables, ideally in business development for a solar or BESS EPC

  • Existing relationships with US developers, IPPs or owners in the utility-scale solar and storage market

What you'll get

A senior base salary plus a performance bonus tied to the projects you win. The company has said it doesn't want to put a hard ceiling on someone who brings in more than expected, so what you earn follows what you build.

What next?

If you don't have an up-to-date CV, don't let that stop you. Send whatever you've got, or drop me a message on LinkedIn, and we'll take it from there. A quick call works too if that's easier. Everyone who reaches out gets a response, and every conversation stays confidential.
