JOB DESCRIPTION: NEXT Theater Assistant (2) 


Position Type: Part Time Hourly (up to 20 hours weekly)


Department: Theater Operations


Reports to: Theater Operations Manager


Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)


Start Date: 07/21/2026 


End Date: 07/26/2026



General Expectations: This is a part-time seasonal position, designated at up to 20 hours per week. Work hours will be coordinated with the Operations team and direct supervisor to support organizational needs. Any hours beyond 20 per week must be pre-approved by the Executive Director and will be compensated in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws. Any potential conflicts of interest or availability should be communicated to the supervisor as early as possible.



Position Summary: The Theater Assistants are responsible for daily festival theater support and ensuring a consistent superior patron experience. This includes maintaining a tight theater schedule and starting screenings on time, general customer service, ensuring the theater is organized and clean, and liaising with the box office, production, programming, and volunteer departments on the overall flow of the theater.



Compensation: $23.00/hr 


Benefits: This is a part-time position during Outfest’s reconstruction phase. As such, no traditional benefits (such as health insurance or paid time off) are currently offered. 



Roles and Responsibilities



  • Ensure theaters open on time and screenings go as smoothly as possible.

  • Admit audiences in a timely manner. 

  • Coordinate last-minute standby ticket sales with the box office.

  • Address patron/guest concerns in a timely manner.

  • Liaise with the Production team concerning patron-related concerns and security. 

  • Ensure the theater is always organized and clean.

  • Maintain communication with the Programming team and Box Office to ensure theater team members are updated on all programming communications, including changes to film screenings.

  • Manage all queue areas and crowds for the theater you are assigned to.

  • Ensure a smooth process of ticket/pass scanning of all screenings.



Qualifications:



  • Experience with film festivals and/or other public events required. 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills. 

  • Experience managing volunteers. 

  • Ability to work well independently and as a team member. Ability to take initiative, and follow tasks through to completion. 

  • Possess a positive and professional attitude with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

  • A commitment to Outfest’s mission and an understanding of its programs and their role in the broader LGBTQ movement.
