POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Leads and inspires young athletes in NinjaZone classes. Creates a safe, welcoming environment while supporting high-quality YMCA programs and modeling the Y’s values in every interaction. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall experience. Creates a culture of transforming lives through friendship, achievement, and belonging.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead & Support Programs – Plans and implements the NinjaZone curriculum. Prepares program spaces and equipment, communicates program needs to supervisors, and assists in monitoring participation and program quality. Communicates with team leaders about supplies and program needs.
Engage Participants & Promote Belonging – Teaches movement, coordination, balance, agility, and strength-building skills in a structured, fun environment. Prepares athletes for seasonal showcases or competitions. Builds meaningful relationships with participants by modeling YMCA values and fostering an environment of friendship, achievement, and belonging, while also instilling the NinjaZone core values of Focused Energy, Work Ethic, and Self-Responsibility. Encourages participation and involvement in YMCA programs.
Ensure Safety & Compliance – Maintains a safe environment while fostering confidence and progress by following YMCA policies and procedures related to facility use, medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Completes incident reports as required and maintains necessary certifications and trainings.
Facility & Equipment Care – Keeps program areas and equipment clean, organized, and functional. Reports maintenance or repair needs promptly and uses YMCA resources responsibly.
Collaborate & Promote YMCA Mission – Works collaboratively with supervisors, colleagues, and other departments to support YMCA programs, member engagement, marketing efforts, fundraising activities, and overall mission advancement.
Professional Development & Organizational Support – Attends required meetings and trainings, maintains certifications, and performs other duties as assigned to support YMCA operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with children
- Passion for movement, fitness, or sports training
- Commitment to the season and availability on evenings and weekends
- Demonstrate a fun, energetic, and positive team-player attitude championing the Y’s values
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to relate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and communities
- Comfortable using computers and technology to support program operations.
- Requirements upon hire include completion of: New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Sexual Harassment training, CPR/AED, First Aid and YMCA Leader Certification.
- Attain and maintain program-specific certifications and training.
