Job Description - NPDES Advisor

Job Description

Role Overview:
As the NPDES Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert guidance and leadership on water management issues across the Gulf of Mexico Region operating sites. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, serving as a liaison with regulatory bodies, and enhancing the capability of the workforce in environmental management and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage the offshore Gulf of Mexico water compliance program, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations.
Provide ongoing support to operating sites for compliance with EPA NPDES discharge permits and onshore SPCC plans.
Act as a representative with regulators and external industry groups, serving as a subject matter expert on water-related matters.
Stay abreast of upcoming water regulations, provide feedback, and participate in regulatory advocacy efforts.
Develop and communicate written procedures to facilitate compliance implementation at operating sites.
Deliver training on offshore water regulations compliance and proper operation of water treatment systems.
Collaborate with field staff to troubleshoot operational issues with water treatment systems and promote appropriate technologies.
Offer expertise to inform regulatory reviews and collaborate with legal teams to document regulatory interpretations.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting to regulatory agencies, maintaining data quality and preparing quarterly reports.
Collect and analyze water-related data, develop performance indicators, and provide insights for continual improvement.
Conduct compliance assessments and audits at Gulf of Mexico Region operating sites and laboratory service providers.
Manage an external audit program for contract laboratories, including budgeting and review of audit reports.
Participate in the Incident Management Team for emergency response, including periodic on-call duties as an environmental specialist.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related technical field.
Strong environmental background with experience in process plant operations and regulatory compliance.
In-depth understanding of US environmental regulations, including Clean Water Act, CERCLA, EPCRA, SPCC, and NPDES.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental compliance.
Desired Qualifications:

Proficiency in data systems such as OpenWells, SEMPCheck, MS Visio, GIS software, SharePoint, and Power Apps.
Experience with design, operation, or troubleshooting of water treatment equipment.
Familiarity with US EPA laboratory methods for water examination.
Experience in incident investigation, HAZID, and ENVID processes.
