NSAH Field Practicum Coordinator

Position: NSAH Field Practicum Coordinator      

Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. ET, with flexibility to adjust hours as needed to accommodate supervision sessions, school schedules, student support needs, and program deadlines.

Reporting to: NSAH Volunteer Program Manager

This role supports and enhances RAINN’s efforts to provide high-quality field placement and internship experiences for social work and related students. As a key member of RAINN’s Victim Services team, this position is responsible for coordinating and supervising student placements, ensuring participants receive the guidance and support needed for their professional development.

Working closely with the NSAH Volunteer Program Manager, this role helps update policies related to student engagement, addresses concerns regarding hotline interactions and performance, and ensures adherence to operational policies. The position facilitates supervision sessions, attends site visits, and assists students with meeting their educational requirements and completing necessary documentation.

In addition, this role drafts communications, develops strategies to foster a sense of community among students, and contributes to discussions about program growth. This position plays a critical part in maintaining the quality and effectiveness of RAINN’s student placements, helping prepare the next generation of professionals to support survivors of sexual assault.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaboration & Relationship Building

•  Partner with MSW, BSW, counseling, and other students to problem-solve challenges, increase placement satisfaction, and support successful program completion.


•  Build and maintain effective working relationships between students, hotline supervisors, and staff to foster a supportive learning environment.


•  Serve as a point of contact for students, encouraging open communication and connection throughout their placement.

Policy & Quality Assurance

•  Work with the Volunteer Program Manager and team to create and update policies governing quality-related issues in student placements.


•  Address student and supervisor concerns related to hotline interactions, adherence to operational policies, and performance expectations.


•  Coordinate monthly opportunities to observe and supervise students on the hotline, ensuring quality standards and providing constructive feedback.


•  Collaborate with the Clinical Team to gather feedback on student performance, enhance learning experiences, and identify opportunities for improvement.


•  Support performance remediation efforts by documenting concerns and facilitating follow-up plans with students and supervisors.

Support and Supervision

•  Plan and facilitate weekly supervision sessions to debrief hotline experiences and support professional development.


•  Attend required school site visits to ensure alignment between RAINN and partner institutions.


•  Support students in completing timesheets, learning contracts, and required evaluations, collaborating with the Volunteer Program Manager as needed.


•  Provide supplemental activities or resources to help students meet additional competencies or learning goals.


•  Draft communications, newsletters, or announcements that foster community and peer connection among students.

Communication & Program Development

•  Participate in strategic discussions about the growth and improvement of the student placement program.


•  Partner with the Volunteer Team and People Team to support outreach, host informational sessions, and facilitate introductory meetings for prospective students.


•  Participate in interviews and selection processes for incoming students, ensuring alignment with program needs.


•  Share feedback and insights to inform program development, policy updates, and student engagement strategies.

Program Development & Special Projects

•  Contribute insights from student feedback and supervision sessions to inform program improvements and future planning.


•  Assist with organization-wide initiatives that intersect with student learning, supervision, or volunteer engagement.


•  Participate in special projects aimed at expanding, enhancing, or evaluating the student placement program.


•  Support data collection and reporting for grants, school partnerships, and internal evaluation efforts.

Training Commitment:

As a condition of employment, the employee must successfully complete a minimum of 80 hours of comprehensive blended training, designed to ensure competency across both the online and telephone platforms. This training includes but is not limited to:

•  24 hours of self-paced online coursework


•  8 hours of AI self-paced simulation training


•  16 hours of live learning, spread over five instructor-led virtual sessions


•  32 hours of chat observation and online shadowing

The initial phase of training culminates in a mock role-play assessment, which is debriefed with RAINN’s Training Team. Successful completion of this assessment is required before moving into supervised practice.

Following the role play, the employee will complete at least two 3-hour clinically supervised sessions on the online hotline, where they will assist users in real time while receiving individualized feedback from a Licensed Training Supervisor.

All training is conducted remotely, and while essential training is generally scheduled during regular shifts, some live or clinical components may require participation outside of your normal hours. Final approval from a Licensed Training Supervisor is required.

Position Specifications/Requirements:

Required Qualifications

•  Master of Social Work (MSW) degree required.


•  2+ years experience in the field of social services or crisis hotline/intervention experience (paid or volunteer work).


•  Must be comfortable discussing issues surrounding sexual violence.


•  Possess the ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with visitors, the general public, and other employees within the organization.


•  Possess a high level of organization and attention to detail.


•  Knowledge of, or experience in, direct customer services.


•  Ability to exercise sound judgment when faced with complex decisions.


•  Resiliently positive and energetic attitude, with the ability to successfully work on a team and independently.


•  Willingness and ability to work a non-traditional schedule which may include evenings and/or weekends/holidays.


•  Proficiency in Google Workspace applications (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) with demonstrated ability to effectively utilize these tools for communication, collaboration, organization, and data management.


•  Carry out any additional tasks and responsibilities relevant to the work being completed, as assigned.


•  Must complete and pass a criminal background check administered by RAINN.

Preferred Qualifications

•  Active state social work licensure (LMSW, LCSW, or equivalent).


•  Experience providing supervision to MSW or BSW students, interns, or volunteers.


•  Familiarity with academic field placement processes and documentation requirements (e.g., learning contracts, timesheets, evaluations).


•  Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and best practices for supporting individuals impacted by sexual violence.


•  Experience collaborating with universities, social work programs, or clinical training programs.


•  Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

RAINN headquarters are based in Washington, DC. This position may be based regionally for someone whose residence is within the continental USA. Although this may be a remote role, it may require some periodic business travel to our DC offices for onsite meetings and training sessions.
