Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Nuclear Engineer (3668) in Idaho Falls, ID.
Navarro Research & Engineering is an award-winning federal contractor dedicated to partnering with clients to advance clean energy and deliver effective solutions for complex challenges in the nuclear and environmental fields. Joining Navarro means being a part of an exceptional team committed to quality and safety while also looking for innovative strategies to create value for the client’s success. Headquartered in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Navarro has active programs in place across the nation for DOE/NNSA, NASA, and the Department of Defense.
The Nuclear Engineer will play a key role in shaping the future of advanced reactor technology. You’ll dive deep into reactor core simulations, thermal-hydraulic analyses, shielding evaluations, and innovative thermomechanical modeling. Collaborate with a talented team to enhance the safety, performance, and efficiency of next-gen reactor designs.
Responsibilities
Reactor Core Simulation: Develop and maintain computational models for reactor physics and thermal-hydraulic behavior using tools like Serpent, MCNP, and OpenMC.
Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis: Perform subchannel thermal-hydraulic simulations to evaluate coolant flow dynamics and heat transfer within advanced reactor cores.
Fuel Performance & Thermomechanical Modeling: Use multi-physics platforms (MOOSE, BISON, BISON-MARMOT) for in-depth thermomechanical analysis of reactor components, evaluating stresses, deformation, and material performance under operational conditions.
Uncertainty Quantification: Implement uncertainty quantification methods to enhance model robustness and confidence in simulation outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with multidisciplinary teams, driving innovation and problem-solving in reactor core and system design.
Required:
MS or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
At least 5–7 years of relevant industry or research experience in nuclear reactor design, computational modeling, or related fields.
Hands-on experience with computational and analysis software such as Serpent, MCNP, OpenMC, MOOSE, BISON, TRANSURANUS, COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar.
Demonstrated capability to innovate solutions for complex nuclear engineering challenges.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, comfortable working in dynamic, multidisciplinary environments.
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
