Job Description - Nuclear Medicine Technologist, 40hr - Days

Contributes to the Hospital’s mission to care, heal and to excel in service to our community by independently operating nuclear medicine cameras, computers and other equipment to perform the highest quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans in the safest possible manner according to established department protocols. This professional staff technologist position will have an impact on quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.

Job Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Required:  Associates Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program

Education Preferred:  Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program

License and Registration Required: Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT (NM)) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and possess a valid Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist license or registry eligible

Certification Required: Basic Life Support

JOB FUNCTIONS

As part of the Radiology team, following department protocols and in accordance with our Massachusetts Radioactive Materials License and ACR accreditation requirements, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist:

  • Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patients’ exam, utilizing compassion, empathy, and respect. 
  • Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team, communicating effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures. 
  • Operates the department equipment to perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine exams.
  • Performs the necessary computer processing/analysis of exam data.
  • Performs gamma camera quality control procedures.
  • Prepares the appropriate radiopharmaceutical, assays the dose in the dose calibrator, and safely administers the dose to the patient, and disposes of the radioactive material properly.
  • Follows the necessary radiation safety techniques and procedures designed to minimize exposure levels to patients, visitors, staff and themselves.
  • Maintains records in accordance with the terms and conditions of our Massachusetts Radioactive Material License and other required documentation accurately, legibly and timely.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment to enhance patient satisfaction and a culture of safety.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and orders radioactive materials from vendors when needed.
  • Assists in the daily operation of the department.
  • Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patients’ experience.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures.  Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork.
  • Minimizes preventable harm events and consistently executes the infection control protocols.  Incorporates the Culture of Safety tools in daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near-miss or potential risks.
  • Coordinates work schedule with departmental supervisor to maintain adequate staffing levels to meet our patients’ and physicians’ needs.
  • Responds to equipment issues timely to ensure optimum operations and equipment quality and long-term equipment maintenance and life.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the accreditation process.
  • Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patients’ experience.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures.
  • Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork.
  • Minimizes preventable harm events and consistently executes the infection control protocols.  Incorporates the Culture of Safety tools in daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near-miss or potential risks.

 

 

Pay Range:

$46.00 - $68.35

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
