Nuclear Security Officer – Plant Vogtle, Waynesboro, GA

As an Armed Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) at Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, GA, you’ll be part of a highly trained security force dedicated to safeguarding our people, our plant, and the surrounding communities. Your mission is critical: Protect personnel and nuclear reactor systems, defend against radiological sabotage and security threats, and prevent threat or misuse of nuclear materials. Working in this high-security environment requires exceptional mental focus and physical readiness. Every day, you’ll stand prepared to deter and defeat the industry’s Design Basis Threat (DBT) - the standard used across the nation to define the most severe challenges a nuclear site must be able to withstand. 

 

Summary of Position Duties 

The Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) reports to the Shift Lieutenant and supports daily shift activities which maintain site physical security. The responsibilities of the NSO include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Continuous focus on safety 
  • Protected area access control
  • Vehicle search and escort
  • Personnel screening and search
  • Protected area and vital area patrols
  • Armed tactical contingency response
  • Rifle live-fire training
  • Annual testing and re-qualification
  • Dependable vigilance at all times, 24/7 Sentry-posts

     

Job Requirements 

Educational / Background / Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Degree in related field desired
  • Two (2) years law enforcement, military, corrections facility, armed security, or related experience desired
  • Previous nuclear Security experience desired

Technical Requirements 

  • Current knowledge of security technology
  • Basic computer skills
  • Experience in dealing with regulations and procedures

  • Respirator qualifiable
  • Firearms skills
  • Physical requirements: see, hear, speak, stand, walk, run, climb, heavy lifting, push, pull, bend, stoop, squat
  • Physical strength and dexterity
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes

  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to comprehend and implement detailed regulatory requirements
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in radiological controlled areas
  • Available to work callout (overtime)
  • Mentally and physically fit-for-duty
  • NRC Medical Qualified for Security Officers per 10 CFR 73 appendix B

 

Other Requirements

  • Overtime should be expected; normal range is 10 to 20%
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Successful completion of onsite physical abilities test
  • Selection process may require multiple visits to the facility to complete all criteria
  • Successfully meeting background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements
  • Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends
