Job Summary:
The Infection Prevention Director is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, evaluation, and surveillance of infection control programs and standards across the organization. This role oversees the infection prevention and control/epidemiology department, ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, OSHA, and state regulations. The director will lead educational initiatives for team members and provide expert consultation to the organization, CDC, and state and county health departments. Additionally, this role includes managing outbreak investigations and directing overall infection prevention efforts, with a strong emphasis on ensuring safe practices and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention and control strategies across the organization, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards.
Oversee the infection prevention and control/epidemiology department, including managing team members, providing training, and consulting with external agencies such as the CDC and local health departments.
Ensure compliance with TJC standards, CMS guidelines, OSHA regulations, and state laws regarding infection prevention.
Lead and manage the investigation and response to infection outbreaks within the facility.
Analyze data related to infection trends, utilizing the information to identify improvement opportunities and optimize infection control practices.
Manage and mentor a team of 4 direct reports, providing leadership, guidance, and support to drive successful infection control initiatives.
Maintain and enhance the facility's infection prevention program, ensuring compliance with best practices and regulations.
Provide education and guidance to staff on infection prevention protocols, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
Present infection data, trends, and outcomes to leadership and staff to ensure awareness and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree required.
Masters degree in Public Health preferred, or relevant experience considered in lieu of education.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in infection prevention, with a focus on epidemiology and infectious diseases methodology.
At least 2 years of leadership experience required, with a proven track record in managing infection prevention programs at a large acute care facility.
Experience in departmental management and strategic planning.
Skills:
Knowledge of data collection, trending, analysis, and presentation.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external agencies.
Licensure and Certification:
Registered Nurse with active Georgia RN licensure (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required.
