II. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer the Nurse Manager is responsible for maintaining the efficient functioning of the Unit, which is under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (Charge Nurse). Promotes a strong line of communication with department staff and ancillary services.
III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for initiating, guiding, and directing the coordination of nursing services provided, including, but not limited to, scheduling, performance evaluations, and staff grievances.
· Functions as a resource person for nursing and other staff members and assists in necessary education to promote effective management of the Unit.
· Assumes responsibility for all the overall quality of nursing care provided by the Mental Health Units.
· Makes decisions regarding activities in area of responsibility in collaboration with the Director of Psychiatric Nursing in unusual situations.
· Provides continuous assessment of nursing staff.
· Participates in formulating budget for the Unit.
· Maintains effective use of manpower, equipment, and supplies.
· Participates in appropriate departmental and hospital committees with a focus on providing input regarding improving the quality of patient care services in the facility.
· Communicates actual or potential problems with Director of Psychiatric Nursing.
· Maintains communication with Nursing Administration to provide for appropriate staffing on all shifts as needed.
· Assesses patient care activities on an ongoing basis.
· Makes adjustments in nursing staff as required.
· Supervises overall nursing care performance and maintenance of quality patient care.
· Defines and implements ongoing performance improvement activities for areas of responsibility which correlate to hospital-wide performance improvement activities with involvement of all levels of personnel.
Requirements
IV. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Current licensure in California as a Registered Nurse.
Bachelor's in nursing preferred
Minimum of four years clinical practice with emphasis on leadership and management experience.
Current B.L.S. and A.C.L.S. certifications.
V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical Activity: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light to Medium Work
Working Hazards or Risks – routine hazards and risks involved in performing nursing activates, including potential exposure to infectious processes, potential exposure to hazardous substances, potential musculoskeletal injures.
