Job Description - Nurse Manager

So, what will the Nurse Manager at Terrestris do?

The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical operations of the nursing staff within the detention facility. This role ensures that quality healthcare services are delivered in compliance with legal, regulatory, and institutional standards. The Nurse Manager serves as a liaison between healthcare staff, correctional staff, and external medical providers, while supervising nursing personnel, managing resources, and upholding the safety and well-being of both patients and staff.

What does a typical day look like for the Nurse Manager?

You will:


  • Manage, schedule, and supervise nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, and medical assistants.

  • Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to nursing personnel.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and support staff development.

  • Ensure timely and appropriate medical care is provided to detainees.

  • Triage and respond to urgent or emergent medical situations.

  • Oversee chronic care management, medication administration, intake screenings, and discharge planning.

  • Ensure compliance with standards set by the facility, state and federal regulations, and accrediting bodies (e.g., NCCHC, ACA).

  • Conduct audits and implement quality improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in accordance with HIPAA.

  • Act as a liaison between nursing staff, correctional officers, physicians, mental health providers, and external hospitals or clinics.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and administrative reviews.

  • Communicate clearly with facility leadership regarding healthcare operations and incidents.

  • Manage inventory and order medical supplies and medications.

  • Participate in budget planning and cost containment efforts.

  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by facility administration.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the professional we’re looking for if you have:


  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN).

  • An associate degree or high from an accredited institution.

  • A minimum of six (6) years of professional nursing experience.

  • Maintain current CPR/BLS certification as well as any professional credentials/certification appropriate to the job specialty.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Knowledge of correctional healthcare standards and procedures.

  • Ability to manage crises and make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
