Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and clinically grounded Nurse Manager to direct one of the largest and most diverse perioperative service lines in the region. Operating within a nationally recognized academic medical center and Level II Trauma Center, the Nurse Manager will set the clinical, operational, and fiscal direction for a comprehensive surgical operation encompassing a General OR, Cardiac OR, Orthopedic OR, and an Ambulatory Surgery Center.
The selected leader will directly oversee 4 distinct surgical units, manage a team of 3 Assistant Nurse Managers (ANMs), and lead up to 120 full-time equivalents (FTEs). This role offers executive-level development, mentorship, and a defined pathway toward Director-level healthcare leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Operations: Direct daily clinical operations across the General OR, Cardiac OR, Orthopedic OR, and Ambulatory Surgery Center to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
People Management: Lead, mentor, and evaluate 3 Assistant Nurse Managers and up to 120 FTEs using objective performance management criteria.
Financial Oversight: Manage the department's operating and capital budgets, proactively identifying and correcting financial variances.
Performance Improvement: Partner with surgical and anesthesia leadership to drive OR-specific metrics, including case turnover, room utilization, and patient throughput.
Professional Development: Champion staff advancement through clinical ladders, specialty certifications, and formal nursing education pathways.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a CCNE-accredited program required; Master’s degree (MSN, MS, MA, MHA, or MBA) preferred.
Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or valid multi-state compact license eligibility with the requirement to obtain state-specific licensure upon relocation).
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required; National nursing leadership or perioperative certification required.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of total RN clinical experience in an Operating Room environment.
3–5 years of progressive OR nursing leadership/supervisory experience.
Core Competencies: Strong fiscal management, data-driven performance evaluation, cross-functional collaboration, and a proven track record of developing high-performing clinical teams.
