A 445+ bed acute care hospital in central Houston, Texas is seeking a Nurse Manager RN to lead its Medical Intensive Care Unit. The facility is an accredited Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program Center and an accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI, and operates both a surgical intensive care unit and a medical intensive care unit. This is a full-time, on-site role with a Monday through Friday daytime schedule from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and no weekend requirements.


The Nurse Manager leads the MICU by applying the nursing process, critical thinking, and evidence-based practices to drive continuous improvement and deliver safe, high-quality patient care. The manager oversees patient assessment and monitoring throughout each shift, ensuring thorough documentation of condition changes and all care provided. This role functions as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating closely with providers, surgeons, and other clinical staff while recognizing and responding to patient emergencies. The Nurse Manager also guides staff in educating patients and families about medical conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up measures.


Key Responsibilities



  • Lead daily operations and clinical performance of the Medical Intensive Care Unit

  • Apply the nursing process, critical thinking, and evidence-based practices to drive continuous improvement

  • Oversee patient assessment and monitoring throughout each shift

  • Ensure thorough and accurate documentation of patient condition changes and care delivered

  • Collaborate with providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary clinical staff to coordinate patient care

  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies with timely and appropriate clinical action

  • Guide and support staff in educating patients and families on medical conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care

  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and professional development across the unit

  • Drive performance improvement initiatives aligned with departmental and organizational goals


Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field highly preferred

  • Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License required

  • National certification in a relevant specialty practice area and/or Administration required within six months of hire

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required within 90 days of hire

  • Minimum of five years of recent nursing experience required

  • Minimum of one year of recent supervisory experience in direct patient care activities as an assistant nurse manager or charge nurse required

  • Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit experience required


Schedule



  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, no weekends
