  • Order, evaluate, and interpret diagnostic tests to assess and manage clinical conditions.
  • Prescribe and recommend medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of licensure.
  • Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians and healthcare professionals.
  • Document all encounters, interventions, and treatment outcomes in electronic medical records with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early release when clinically appropriate.
  • Support medical program operations, including audits, compliance checks, and service quality evaluations.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and help ensure proper sanitation of medical equipment and work areas.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with medical staff, correctional officers, contract providers, and outside healthcare agencies.
  • Deliver health education and counseling to individuals and groups as needed.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and perform rescue functions, including administering basic life support.
  • Support compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., NCCHC, ACA, JCAHO) and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in staff meetings and interdisciplinary committees to support health services delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain situational awareness and respond effectively to potentially volatile or high-stress environments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current licensure and/or certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in the state of employment.
  • Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience (correctional or emergency care experience a plus).
  • Certification or training in Family Practice is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Strong clinical judgment, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a secure, high-pressure setting and respond calmly and efficiently in emergencies.
  • Comfortable working on rotating shifts and in confined or controlled environments.

This is a unique opportunity for nurse practitioners who are passionate about providing meaningful care in underserved communities while working in a structured, team-oriented clinical environment.
