JOB SUMMARY:

Performs the essential duties and responsibilities and the primary functions of a Nurse Practitioner in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of assigned patients.  Responsible for meeting the established Clinic and applicable sub-specialty standards of Advanced Nursing Practice. Responsible for promoting team work with physicians and personnel of other departments.  Responsible for solving clinical problems, dealing with a variety of issues and interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.  Demonstrates clinical knowledge and judgment necessary for patient’s plan of care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Ability to assess, project, and plan for patient needs.


• Performs accurate age specific assessments.


• Functions as an independent practitioner in the Clinic setting in collaboration with the Division Director and/or Chief Medical Officer.


• Maintains current knowledge of medications.


• Ability to make appropriate decisions exercising independent judgment.


• Provides patients and their families with education based on the age, condition, development, and psychosocial aspects of the patient.


• Provides accurate, timely and complete documentation with respect to plan of care, assessment and other patient care documentation.


• Communicates effectively (hear, listen, speak) with patients, and families.


• Communicates effectively (hear, listen, speak) with physicians and health team members. 


• Respects patients’ rights and confidential information.


• Demonstrates age specific competence in caring for geriatric patients.


• Provides a safe environment for patients, families, and co-workers.


• Adheres to Infection Control policies and procedures.


• Incorporates continuous performance improvement recommendations into clinical practice.


• Supports and practices in accordance with MCHS / Clinic policy, procedures and protocol.


• Appropriate use of sick time.


• Follow time and attendance policy.


• Contribute and participate in cost containment activities.


• Completes AED, other unit education competencies, and other required training in-service programs.


• Willing to work a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the Clinic.


• Adheres to Department Dress Code.


• Assumes responsibility for his/her professional development.


• Attends meetings as directed by the Division Director or Chief Medical Officer


• Participates in community activities that promote positive relations.


• All other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Supervision of others is involved requiring little direction, instruction, training or planning.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential job duties.

• Must pass the employee drug screen with a negative test result.

• Education and /or experience:
  
  
  
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing, or Advanced Training as an NP.
  
  
  
  

• Licensure:
  
  
  
  • Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse.
  
  
  • Current State of Texas license as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
  
  
  
  

• Language skills:
  
  
  
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the patient’s medical record and MCHS / Clinic and departmental policies and procedures.
  
  
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in English from medical staff, managers, patients, families and the general public.
  
  
  
  

• Mathematical Skills:
  
  
  
  • Ability to calculate medication dosages.
  
  
  • Able to convert weights for clinical application.

PERSONAL CONTACTS/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/GUEST RELATIONS:

Contacts are with patients, families, co-workers, visitors, physicians, supervisors, administrative staff and other clinic department personnel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/JOB CONDITIONS:

BBP Class I:  This position includes routine duties that are prone to bloodborne pathogen exposure. These employees will receive personal protective equipment training, bloodborne pathogen standard training, and learn safety precautions. Employees in this class will be offered vaccinations provided by Midland Community Healthcare Services.

Physical Demand:  Ability to interact with patients and operate office equipment for patient services.  Employees will need the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, or more, independently as necessary.  Vision abilities are required to read and verify patient information, to read information on medical records, and the read information on computer systems.  Writing, speaking, and typing abilities are required in order to interview and triage the patient then document information in the electronic medical charts. Ability to pull, push, lift, and manipulate equipment and files.
