Description

A nurse practitioner is certified under section 6910 of the New York State Education Law and licensed as a registered nurse.  A nurse practitioner provides acute/primary health care in accordance with written policies approved by nursing and medical administration.



Responsibilities

1.Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement in the specific clinical area and performs a periodic review of the collaborative agreement.

2.Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination.

3.Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes and alters medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area.

4.Provides teaching and counseling in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. 

5. Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record.

6. Consults with physician as established in the collaborative practice agreement.

7. Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care.

Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to acute/primary health care delivery.

8.Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months

13.Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees which influence and/or determine policies affecting nursing practice and patient care delivery.

14. Seeks opportunities to enhance professional nursing practice and influences outcomes.

15. Treats co-workers, patients and families with dignity and respect.

16. Is open and responsive to the diverse backgrounds and experience of other people, and promotes an environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.



Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree program designed to prepare a registered nurse to provide acute/primary health care services or the successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (i.e., post-Masters NP certificate.)
  • Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the applicable state.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required
  • Preferred minimum of 2 years of oncology or hematology/oncology clinical experience as an NP or several years of oncology RN experience with advanced practice training.
  • Preferred Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (ONCC/ AOCNP)

 

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $155,836.71 - $179,789.85 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
