Virtual Cardiology Program

Job Summary

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Heart Center's virtual cardiology program. The APP will provide high-quality, evidence-based cardiovascular care through a dedicated digital platform for established patients within General Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Heart Failure. The APP will provide comprehensive virtual follow-up care, review diagnostic testing, support optimization of medical therapy, coordinate ongoing management, and facilitate appropriate escalation of care when needed. This role works closely with cardiologists, Heart Center Communications, nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary team members to support timely access and efficient, patient-centered care.

This position provides care through a dedicated virtual platform. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive virtual follow-up visits for established cardiology patients using approved telehealth platforms.


• Review patient symptoms, interval history, medication adherence, and clinical progress.


• Evaluate laboratory results, cardiac imaging, rhythm monitoring, stress testing, echocardiograms, and other cardiovascular diagnostic studies.


• Determine appropriate follow-up intervals and coordinate future virtual or in-person appointments based on clinical needs.


• Review incoming cardiology consultation requests from internal and external referral sources; collaborate with Heart Center Communications to support timely scheduling and appropriate patient placement; facilitate communication between referring providers and cardiology specialists when additional clinical guidance is needed; provide patient education regarding diagnoses, medications, lifestyle modifications, and disease management; and perform structured morning chart review to prepare for virtual encounters, including review of outstanding diagnostic testing and recent hospitalizations or emergency department visits.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education           

• Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.


• Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification 

• Nurse Practitioners: National certification as an NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment; BLS required.


• Physician Assistants: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.

License                

• Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.


• Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of North Carolina.

Experience          

• Nurse Practitioners: 3 years of RN experience strongly preferred; minimum of 1 year of cardiovascular clinical experience preferred.


• Physician Assistants: None required above education/training requirement; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
