SUMMARY DESCRIPTION  OF  WORK


This psychiatric nurse practitioner, an advance practice nurse, will offer patient assessment and diagnosis, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests and provide patient education at the Sarpy County Jail.  Collaborates with other Sarpy County Jail prescribers, as well as the Heartland Family Service Mental Health Clinician placed at the Sarpy County Jail. Provides psychiatric health services, education, short term counseling and emotional support. Issues medication prescriptions in accordance with treatment guidelines. Provides patient education regarding medications, risks, benefits and reasonable outcome expectations to promote mental health. Communicates with patients and engages in follow-up as necessary.


Compensation:  Based on relevant experience.
Work Schedule: Able to choose day of week to work the 8 hour shift


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 



  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in the Behavioral Health Nursing field.

  • A minimum of a master’s Degree in nursing from an accredited (ANCC) educational institution.

  • Must also be licensed or willing to become licensed in Nebraska as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, APRN.

  • Licensed with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Nebraska.



    Essential Duties and Responsibilities




      • Prescribes medications within their scope of practice to include the parameters of jail medicine.

      • Completes routine medical history and physical examinations when needed.

      • Evaluates and assesses the bio-psycho-social needs of clients.

      • Develops comprehensive treatment plans in accordance with policy and procedures.

      • Engage in clinical rounds of patience while on the Behavioral Health Unit at the Sarpy County Jail.

      • Completes updates as required.

      • Communicates information to other agencies/organization as appropriate.

      • Provides assessments, progress notes, treatment plan updates and discharge summaries in accordance with agency policy. Documentation is completed within 24 hours of therapeutic interaction.

      • Provides consultation with therapists and jail staff on complex cases

      • Provides, when indicated, case consultation with significant persons in the client’s life.

      • Is dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.

      • Display a courteous and caring attitude at all times to the clientele, volunteers, and visitors of Heartland Family Service.

      • Cooperate and collaborate with program area staff, volunteers, and other Agency staff.

      • Abide by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies and requirements.

      • Develop personal and program related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities including printed material and audio and/or visual media.

      • *Creates, maintains and shares an appropriate a dynamic self-care plan.

      • *Strives to make connections between the agency and the larger community whenever possible in order to contribute to the agency’s ongoing fundraising and friend-raising efforts.

      • *Essential functions of this job are to be performed on company physical work site.

      • Perform other program related duties as assigned.
