Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Job Summary:
***NOW OFFERING A $4,000 SIGN ON BONUS***

We are seeking a nursing professional with clinical and health care operations expertise and demonstrated commitment to caring for people with substance use disorder (SUD) with a harm reduction framework, who has administrative and clinical responsibilities within the Harm Reduction Team for the daily operations at the Finland Clinic at 774 Albany St. Boston, MA 02118. 

Responsibilities include both direct patient care and the planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating of the delivery of patient care at the Finland Clinic within established regulatory guidelines and professional nursing and harm reduction tech practice standards. The Nurse Site Manager for Finland Clinic will supervise some clinical staff on the Harm Reduction Team.

Hours: 40 hours; Monday- Friday 8:30 am-5:00 pm with flexibility in schedule based on coverage
needs

Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties:
  • Oversee and monitor clinical operations, including direct care provided by nurses and Harm Reduction Techs.
  • Provide oversight to the dispensing and distribution of over-the-counter medication according to standing orders, to the sedation monitoring area, and the Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) programming at Finland Clinic according to nursing standards.
  • Evaluate the adherence to and effectiveness of clinical standards and programming through participation in quality improvement activities.
  • Update and maintain accurate treatment records, flow sheets, and other documentation.
  • Ensure Finland Clinic is fully equipped with clinical supplies and operational daily.
  • Interview, hire, supervise, and evaluate clinical staff according to established personnel policies and procedures of BHCHP, including the equity hiring framework.
  • Provide oversight and management of team schedules.
  • Explicitly strive for equitable access to harm reduction services and equitable addiction outcomes for patients of all races, ethnicities, and genders.
  Direct Nursing Care:
  • Direct nursing care to ensure that all needs of the patients are met, conforming to established policies and procedures, as well as Department of Public Health regulations.
  • Serve as the first responder in the case of a medical emergency at all sites.
  • Provide nursing visits, medication management, and care coordination.
  • Non-judgmental clinical support for patients who are overly sedated and/or overamped to prevent overdose. 
  • Accurate assessment of sedation and documentation, involving the rapid response team as clinically indicated.
  • Supportive engagement of patients with substance use disorder in a manner consistent with Harm Reduction Principles and provides risk reduction counseling and connection to treatment programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervising some of the Harm Reduction Nurses.
  • Develop and sustain an environment that supports excellence in clinical practice and positive patient outcomes.
  • Hold staff accountable for implementing standards of care, practice, and performance.
Qualifications:
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred.
  • Commitment to working with people experiencing homelessness who are actively using substances.
  • Strong assessment skills
  • People with lived experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
  • Pharmacological understanding of medications or drugs that cause sedation and overamping.
  • Knowledge of opioid overdoes management and brief interventions.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques for patients actively using substances and with dual diagnosis.
Compensation and Benefits:
***NOW OFFERING A $4,000 SIGN ON BONUS***
  • The compensation starts at $88,600.00 annually and increases based on years of experience.
  • BHCHP full time employees are eligible for our competitive time off policy of 4 weeks’ vacation, health, dental and vision insurance, 403B retirement savings plan and employer retirement contribution, and pre-tax MBTA pass program with 40% discount. In addition, eligible employees will receive yearly increases, additional compensation of seven thousand five hundred dollars added to your base hiring rate for demonstrated bilingual proficiency and the opportunity to work with local hospitals and community health centers.
