About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

This position is located at Dan River Prison Work Farm Yanceyville, NC. Dan River Prison Work Farm is a minimum-custody prison housing male offenders. Dan River Prison Work Farm serves as the hub for healthcare for the male inmate population. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 640 offenders. Considerable knowledge of professional nursing theory, techniques, practices. Working knowledge of management and supervisory methods, practices, and procedures. Ability to implement the nursing process (assess, plan, implement and evaluate) to meet patient needs. Ability to direct and carry out prescribed medical treatments and therapeutic programs. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of healthcare staff. Ability to actively motivate employees and develop team camaraderie and commitment towards meeting the objectives of higher management. Ability to advise and counsel employees on job performance and conduct. Ability to actively seek to coach and mentor staff. Ability to prepare and maintain reports of activities and patient progress. Ability to identify and address quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for a unit.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $ 71,698 – $118,304

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing principles and techniques to include physical assessments, clinical judgments, treatment planning and evaluation.
