JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinating medical services as needed by the individuals in his/her assigned areas. The Nursing Coordinator is the medical liaison between the primary care physician(s), and the family/guardian. Delegates medicine administration per regulations within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Conducts medication delegation training, annual medication recertification and remedial re-training for all designated staff members. *
  • Completes nursing assessments of persons serves as required in a timely manner; documents conditions, documents changes and progress. *
  • Performs oversight and review of medication variances. *
  • Ensures face sheet and MARs are current and correct. *
  • Works directly with pharmacy to ensure medications/MARS are delivered in a timely and accurately. *
  • Administers various scheduled and PRN injections and medications as ordered by physicians. *
  • Plans dispensing of medication by person served, performs quality checks to ensure appropriate medication was dispensed. Oversees staff in dispensing of medication and tracking vital signs. *
  • Works with physicians, dieticians, staff members to insure special dietary orders are followed. *
  • Works with Medical Coordinator to provide essential medical information to doctors for client appointments. *
  • Facilitates medical support service planning for all individuals in services with Department Directors and Site Leaders, including attendance to client intake meetings, and regular follow up and monitoring of clients recently discharged from in-patient hospitalizations, rehabilitation, or out-patient surgeries, *
  • Oversees staff in monitoring diabetes program for persons served including monitoring blood sugar readings, ensuring blood sugar monitors are calibrated and working properly and providing weekly blood sugar deviation reports to the appropriate manager. *
  • Performs minor, routine, non-invasive medical procedures including lab draws under the direction of and orders of client physicians. *
  • Reports accidents/incidents including suspected cases of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation in accordance with FSI policies. *
  • Available to take occasional calls after hours and on weekends from on-call manager for consultation regarding client medical issues.*
  • Ensures the highest level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Keeps staff and guardians informed of changes in client treatment, medication, etc.
  • Observes persons served for reactions to drugs, treatments or procedures, and reports unusual conditions and adverse reactions.
  • May maintain immunization program for staff and provides required TB tests as well as Hepatitis B shots.
  • Communicates all issues and concerns to supervisor in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participates in general staff meetings and other committees as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION

Current LPN certification from an institution accredited by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Current LPN license from the Kansas State Board of Nursing. The Nursing Coordinator will abide by the services and ethics standards as set for by the Nurse Practice Act and FSI. Must complete College of Front Line Supervisory training course within 3 months of hire or provide proof of course completion.
