Position: Full time, 40 hour/week, salaried, exempt, non-union
JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Provides education on inpatient and emergency services for groups internally and externally.
2. Actively markets the hospital services in an effort to maintain a consistent patient census.
3. Coordinates clinical and managerial responsibilities to ensure compliance with established standards of practice / state laws.
4. Maintains current knowledge of trends in swing bed care and acute care and incorporates these into the delivery of care.
5. Evaluates, recommends and implements new processes and systems that improve patient care and documentation of the same.
6. Participates in interdisciplinary meetings regarding the plan of care for all inpatients.
7. Ensures performance and practice standards in compliance with state and federal regulations.
8. Provides direct patient care when needed.
9. Oversee the scheduling of inpatient, ED and case management staff.
10. Ensures all employee evaluations are completed annually.
11. Reviews or designates review and update to Inpatient, ED and Case Management policies annually.
12. Ensure all staff have completed current competencies, attends all mandatory in-services and has completed the required certifications.
13. Promotes continued learning for staff, encourages certifications, continuing education, professional career development program.
14. Participates as a leader in staff education.
15. Participates in hospital and medical staff committees as appropriate and as assigned.
16. Maintains an environment that promotes high quality and fiscally efficient customer service.
17. Completes payroll accurately.
18. Is responsible for departmental budgets.
19. Hires for vacant positions in the departments responsible for.
20. Shares AOD call on a rotating basis to cover clinical services questions and concerns.
QI: Assumes primary responsibility for developing, QI for inpatient, ED and case management departments by implementing and monitoring Department specific Quality Improvement initiatives and projects in support of the Hospital’s Quality Improvement Program through 1.) Monitoring key areas for quality performance on high volume, high risk, high impact and/or problem prone activities in safety, effectiveness, patient impact, timeliness and efficiency; 2.) Identifying issues/problems, developing and implementing solutions and expectations for improvement and consistently monitoring progress and results; 3.) Reporting Departmental quality improvement initiatives to the Quality Improvement Committee; 4.) Educating, leading and motivating Department staff in an acute awareness of and ongoing commitment to the Hospital’s Quality Improvement Program and their role therein; 5.) Collaborating with other Departments as appropriate in full support of initiatives and improvements in patient safety and care.
Quality Improvement: Actively participates in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, actively supports and implements Department-specific Quality improvement initiatives and projects, recommends process improvement as appropriate, reports any quality issues in service delivery and consistently commits to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.
Disaster Management: As an employee of Penobscot Valley Hospital, the position has an inherent role to care for our community members when in need. To this regard, the incumbent will be expected to participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested. When called upon during a When called upon during a real life disaster/emergency event, the incumbent w real life disaster/emergency event, the incumbent will be expected to participate in the Hospital’s ted to participate in the Hospital’s response to this event, within the scope of professional and personal ability to do so.
Requirements
Current Maine license as a Registered Professional Nurse. Bachelor’s degree preferred or required to obtain within a mutually agreed upon timeframe. 5 years nursing experience and 2-3 years progressive management experience. Excellent critical thinking, problem solving abilities, written and verbal communication skills. BLS, ACLS and PALS required.
