Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly responsible specialty nursing position which will be under the direct supervision of the Epidemiology Program Manager of the Florida Department of Health in Osceola County. This position is within the Osceola County tuberculosis (TB) program, which manages active, suspected, and latent TB infections. The position incumbent will ensure patient compliance with treatment and care plans, as well as coordinate the completion of therapy for those patients diagnosed with TB.

Will create a care plan for the patient and coordinate with other internal programs and outside agencies to make certain the patients assigned to them receive all services needed to ensure that any issues that may interfere with the completion of treatment are addressed. Will conduct patient interviews, perform nursing assessments, and prepare and maintain clinical records. Will assist the physician with clinical exams. Will draw blood and conduct other specimen collection as needed.

Will provide TB and occupational health education to both internal and external departmental groups and individuals. Will promote disease surveillance and case finding, assist with conducting contact investigations, provide TB testing for high risk individuals and groups, and provide follow-up as indicated.

Will provide clinical direction to Health Support Technicians and Health Service Representatives regarding the care of TB patients. Will perform routine clinic functions such as x-ray scheduling, TB testing, specimen collection, administering medications, ordering medications, shipping specimens, providing drug supplies, monitoring drug toxicity, reviewing medication instructions, interpreting and carrying out physician's orders and recommendations, and assisting the physician with evaluation and conferences.

This position will be subject to being on call as needed. This position will travel as required to carry out duties and attend meetings. This position will carry out both virtual and physical directly observed therapies (DOTs) for the treatment of tuberculosis. Must maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and have access to a personal vehicle.

This position will assist in all areas of the Tuberculosis and Refugee Health Program as needed. Will prepare and maintain clinical and administrative records to document all activity. Will assist in the screening and health assessments for refugees and clients at high risk.

This position will generate annual and internal reports for the tuberculosis program. This position will document health care plans and client interactions within HMS. This position will complete timesheet, EARS, and mandatory training in a timely and accurate manner.

This position will be the back up for Employee Health performing TB screenings, flu shots and vaccine booster shots.

Performs other related duties, including Emergency Duty. Will increase knowledge base by participating in staff development and educational programs and reviewing educational materials and educational updates as they are released.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

+ Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data

+ Knowledge of medical information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat communicable diseases

+ Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques in specialized areas.

+ Knowledge of basic computer skills, office equipment and epidemiology programs including Windows, Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Epi info

+ Knowledge of People First, HMS, EARS, Merlin, Florida Shots

+ Ability to conduct case investigations, assessments, reporting, and follow up

+ Ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff and the community

+ Ability to deliver presentations to staff and the community

+ Ability to provide training to others

+ Ability to utilize problem solving techniques

+ Ability to work independently and effectively with others

+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

+ Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments

+ Ability to document work products and complete reports

+ Ability to participate in on-call duty

Qualifications:

Minimum -

+ At least 1 year of experience working with patients in a clinical setting

+ Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

+ Experience providing patient education

+ Valid FL Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment

+ Willing to be on call

+ Must have current CPR certification, or obtain such certification during employment

+ Practicing registered nurse with a valid RN license for practice within the state of Florida

+ Willing to use your personal vehicle if needed to travel to another location to perform assignments

+ Willing to work with active and latent tuberculosis cases

Preferred -

+ Experience providing education and/or training to community audiences

+ Experience performing Emergency Duty

+ Experience working with underserved populations

+ Bilingual

+ Experience with electronic health records and documentation software

+ Experience drawing blood and collecting client specimens
