As a Child Start Nutrition Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing meal services for locations serving children aged 0 to 5, ensuring adherence to guidelines established by the USDA, the Kansas State Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Head Start, as well as various state, county, local, and agency regulations. You will manage documentation to ensure the accuracy and consistency of all nutrition-related data in the Program Information Report. It is essential to comply with CACFP standards in all areas of nutrition. Regular attendance is a critical aspect of this position.
Create age-appropriate monthly menus following KDHE, CACFP and performance standard requirements.
Assists with contract negotiation for the purchase of food, supplies, services and equipment needed for operation, as needed.
Ensures program CACFP compliance and files all required reports in a timely manner.
Responsible for reviewing files of all referred to Nutrition department, to find possible food allergies and other dietary substitutions.
Coordinates all food substitution menus and meal plans with parents, staff and vendors.
Monitor food expenses and complete CACFP claim spreadsheet monthly.
Perform classroom monitoring for safe nutrition practices and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, three times a year.
Supervise and meets regularly with Health Clerk(s) for Reflective Supervision and support.
Provide training for 0-5 sites, staff and partners on food handling, sanitation and areas concerning nutrition, semi-annually and during orientation.
Associate Degree (A.A) in Nutrition, Administration, or hotel/restaurant management and/or specialized training or certification.
Requires two years of related experience.
Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.
Candidates must be able to:
Demonstrate positive leadership in supervising and building strong teams to coordinate health services
Utilize critical thinking skills in evaluating/monitoring services
Exhibit good problem solving skills and is solution driven to meet participant and staff needs
Demonstrate strong oral and written skills
Evaluate/develop/provide health training to agency staff
Show proficiency in utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint software and working with data base systems
Child Start's Nutrition Coordinator is $24.32/hour, 40 hours/week and 52 weeks/year.
