Job Description - Nutrition Program Coordinator


Job Summary

The Program Coordinator supports the Nutrition Program with administrative duties as well as serve as backup to kitchen operations and coordination of nutrition workers and volunteers. Responsible for recruiting, coordinating and training volunteers for nutrition programs. Ensures the nutrition programs and activities operate efficiently while encouraging an open and welcoming environment to the community.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Starting Pay: $47,000

Essential Job Functions

  1. Assist Nutrition Program Manager with delivery route sheets, participant updates (Master File, Senior Center, and CMIS), as well as meal ordering for all nutrition programs.
  2. Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers and staff for on-site activities and home-bound meal delivery.
  3. Maintain volunteer files to ensure compliance with program requirements.
  4. Build relationships and engage with staff, participants, family members and caregivers, volunteers, vendors, and community members in an effective, positive, supportive, and professional manner.
  5. Conduct outreach to attract new volunteers and strengthen relationships with current volunteers through ongoing communication, support, and recognition.
  6. Serve as a liaison to the Care Coordination (CC) team to notify of any incidents involving participants at time of meal delivery or disclosed during well-being calls. Also serve as the point of contact for CC Team reminders for reassessments due and ensuring receipt per funding guidelines.
  7. Provide onboarding support for new participants in the Home Delivered Meal program including welcome packets.
  8. Cross-train and provide staff coverage for all members of the Nutrition team as needed, including Nutrition Program Manager and meal delivery assistance.
  9. Maintain records and reports in AgingIS database for nutrition programs and My Senior Center for participants, vendors, and volunteers. Input data and verify all month end reports.
  10. Assist Nutrition staff and volunteers in successful daily operations of the nutrition site, including set up and breakdown of the service area and preparation for programs.
  11. Attend meetings and various training seminars and conferences as required.
  12.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in social services, human services or related field preferred
  • One to two years’ experience in program support, volunteer coordination, food service, or other community programs.

License(s) and Certification(s):

  • ServSafe Food Handler certification required, Manager Certification preferred.
  • State of IL Driver’s license and proof o liability insurance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Kitchen operations and meal service
  • Office terminology and procedures
  • Data/word processing applications- Excel, Word, Outlook, internet, etc
  • Various administrative tasks including scheduling, organizing, planning, answering calls, creating and editing documents, event planning, following up/sending reminders, handling inquiries, etc

Skill in:

  • Verbal and written communication with legible writing.
  • Basic math.
  • Plan, organize, and manage workload effectively with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Task and time management.
  • Effective communication with all team members.
  • Contributing to a positive work environment focused on teamwork

  • Remain professional in challenging situations
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Solve problems
  • Keep work areas in clean, orderly condition
  • Learn and adhere to program requirements

Physical Abilities:

  • Sit, stand, keyboard, read, write, hear, and speak for extended periods of time
  • Climb multiple flights of stairs/ramps easily
  • Lift up to 30 pounds
