Job Description - NVH Quality Test Engineer

We are seeking an NVH Quality Test Engineer who has a strong understanding of mechanical systems and laboratory or machine testing, with a demonstrated interest in experimental noise control. The ideal candidate will be familiar with analytical methods and digital signal processing techniques. Experience with instrumentation, noise control devices, acoustic materials, and testing & analysis is a plus. Proficiency in NVH modeling tools is critical, and exposure to sound quality methods is highly desirable.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:                

  • Lead the development and execution of sound and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) strategies to enhance product performance and customer experience
  • Translate product requirements into innovative test plans and advanced simulation approaches
  • Design, build, and execute test setups and simulation models to evaluate and predict system behavior
  • Partner cross-functionally with design and sound engineering teams to drive data-informed decisions
  • Proactively identify testing priorities through simulation insights and performance predictions
  • Take ownership of end-to-end testing processes, from concept through analysis and final recommendations
  • Coordinate and secure test assets, including machines, components, and instrumentation
  • Ensure precise setup and calibration of measurement tools such as microphones and accelerometers
  • Guide and mentor team members during test execution, data collection, and model development
  • Analyze complex data sets to uncover insights, root causes, and opportunities for optimization
  • Deliver clear, impactful reports and recommendations that directly influence product design improvements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics required
  • 5–7 years of experience in machine, system, or component noise control required
  • Combination of professional experience and advanced degree work (M.S. or Ph.D.) will be considered
  • Relevant academic experience in NVH topics—such as acoustics, vibro-acoustic simulation/modeling, hands-on NVH testing, or noise control—will be considered in lieu of professional experience
  • Internship and project experience must be clearly detailed on the resume, including duration and scope of work
  • Strong preference for candidates with either:
  • Three or more university-level courses in acoustics and vibration, or
  • Several years of hands-on experience in acoustics and vibration
  • Membership in the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) is a plus

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of and experience with vibro-acoustic systems
  • Vibro-acoustic numerical simulation (modeling) and data analysis
  • NVH testing and data analysis, including:
  • Setting up NVH instrumentation (accelerometers, microphones, etc.)
  • Running data acquisition systems
  • Processing and analyzing large datasets in both frequency and time domains
  • Creating acoustic models of mechanical systems
  • Understanding noise sources, paths, and radiation
  • Preferred Experience/Tools: SimCenter, VA-One, NX, FEA, BEA, SEA, Ray Tracing, energy methods, Modal Analysis, Transfer Path Analysis, Source Identification, PULSE Labshop, BKConnect, Test.Lab, NI

SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to direct others and clearly present findings and reports
  • Highly collaborative team player, adaptable in a lean team environment and willing to support colleagues as needed
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to drive projects forward and overcome obstacles beyond the immediate scope of the role
