NYS II Rolling Mill Crane Utility

Basic Job Functions:

The Rolling Mill Crane/Utility is primarily responsible for the safe operation of the Rolling Mill remote control crane. This includes inspection reports along with the daily operations. Eventually the Crane Utility must be able to learn all the positions in the mill and be able to fill in when needed along with assisting on product and blade changes. This position must either have or attain crane certification within one year of start date. The Crane Utility must have basic computer skills, willing to operate all mill equipment, work in extreme weather conditions, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. They also must be able to meet all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.  Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Communication Skills – Strong ability to express ideas and opinions both verbally and written in order to achieve positive outcomes.

Teamwork – A proven history of working well with other employees with the ability to contribute effectively in a team environment.

Production and Processing        Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Operation and Control  Controlling operations of equipment and/or systems.

Controlling Machines and Processes      Using either control mechanisms or direct activity to operate machines and processes (not including computers or vehicles).

Inspecting        Inspecting equipment or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

Preferences:

6 months Finishing or Roll Mill experience 

Successful completion of Rolling Mill cross-training
