Job Description - O&M / Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician

The Worthington Generation Station, situated in Switz City, Indiana, operates four LM6000 simple-cycle turbines, providing a combined site capacity of 172 MW to serve the region’s energy needs. The facility is designed to deliver fast-response power, ensuring reliable support during periods of peak electricity demand and system fluctuations. By doing so, its operations play a vital role in maintaining regional grid stability and supporting a resilient, dependable energy supply.

Opportunity Summary

The O&M / Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician at the Worthington Generation Station supports the operation and maintenance of instrumentation, electrical, and control systems for a 172 MW fast-response generation facility. This role includes troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, and hands-on training to become CRO-qualified while operating and monitoring plant equipment and control systems. The position provides the opportunity to develop technical expertise, ensure reliable plant performance, and contribute directly to regional grid stability.

Your scope of responsibility as O&M/IC&E Technician will include the following primary functions:

Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Systems Maintenance

  • Perform troubleshooting, calibration, functional testing, and preventive/corrective maintenance of field instrumentation, analytical devices, turbines, auxiliary systems, and emissions monitoring equipment to ensure accuracy, compliance, reliable operation, and trending analysis for preventive action.

  • Troubleshoot control logic, automation software, and programmable systems, diagnosing faults that impact unit startup, loading, and operational stability.

  • Maintain and service electrical power and control systems from low-voltage control/instrumentation to 115kv station step up transformer, including motors, 480vac MCC buckets, batteries, battery chargers, inverters, and transformers.

  • Conduct light mechanical repairs as needed, including replacing fan belts, bearings, pump couplings and seals, and piping repairs.

  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on LM6000 turbines and auxiliary skids per OEM guidance including sensor and actuator replacements, wiring and cabling repairs, component and hardware replacement, and equipment upgrades.

  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot distributed and programmable control systems, SCADA interfaces, and process automation platforms, resolving alarms, communication faults, and I/O issues affecting unit availability and plant performance.

  • Interpret control programs, ladder logic, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and schematics to support troubleshooting, repairs, and minor system modifications.

  • Use advanced diagnostic and calibration tools to evaluate signal integrity, loop performance, and electrical anomalies.

  • Install, remove, and replace electrical and control equipment—including motors, switches, wiring, transformers, and instrumentation—in compliance with plant standards and codes.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance and calibration records, including work histories, downtime logs, drawing updates, calibration checks, safety verifications, and equipment databases to support compliance and asset management.

The O&M/IC&E Technician will be trained and qualified to perform primary operations and equipment support duties such as:

  • Train to become CRO-qualified by gaining hands-on experience in plant operations, control system monitoring, and safe execution of operational procedures.

  • Operate and oversee turbines and auxiliary systems, performing safe start-ups, shutdowns, and load adjustments per approved procedures.

  • Monitor and control plant operation, responding to alarms, identifying abnormal conditions, and maintaining reliable operation during unattended or minimally staffed periods.

  • Conduct field walkdowns to verify system alignment, identify equipment issues, and support troubleshooting and maintenance.

  • Maintain accurate operating logs and plant records, ensuring compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and site-specific safety procedures.

  • Manage warehouse and spare parts inventory, and operate/support plant subsystems including water treatment, HVAC, and fire protection systems.

  • Perform additional operational, maintenance, and administrative tasks as assigned by the O&M Supervisor or Plant Manager.
