Description: 


Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant (MA) will assist the medical staff with the day-to-day operations of the medical clinic. The job includes preparing the exam rooms, keeping the exam rooms neat and clean, patient intake/vital signs, patient education, collection and processing of lab specimens, as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer. The job will also include maintaining effective patient flow and assuring all medical services are consistent with GA Wellness’ mission and philosophy, as well as the implementation and maintenance of GWG’s policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be highly organized, be able to perform certain administrative and clinical duties under the direct supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, Nurse Manager, Patient Services Director, and Physician. The candidate must also be available to work some evenings.


 


Responsibilities:  



  • Provide optimal care of GA Wellness’ patients before, during, and after being seen in the clinic

  • Implements and maintains effective patient flow utilizing paid and volunteer personnel 

  • Implements best practices in patient care and clinic services 

  • Prepare exam rooms and ensure cleanliness and readiness for patient care

  • Take and record vital signs, weight, and medical history

  • Perform phlebotomy and collect urine and lab specimens; complete lab requisitions and ensure proper handling

  • Assist providers with gynecological exams, Pap smears, and prenatal visits.

  • Prepare patients for procedures such as colposcopies, IUD removals, and minor in-office surgeries.

  • Provide basic prenatal education and post-visit instructions

  • Ensures daily and interim cleaning is completed

  • Answer phones and patient messages regarding test results and general inquiries

  • Collaborates with non-medical staff to ensure clinic procedures follow community clinic and AAAHC regulations  

  • Complete STD appointments including intake, collection and processing of specimens, patient education, review of lab results, and patient notification as directed by the Nurse Manager with permission of the Medical Director.

  • Reviews and maintains the electronic patient files to ensure compliance with GWG’s policies and procedures

  • Assist in appropriately coding for patient services, using the most updated codes and patient notes created by the RN, NP or MD

  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality under the guidelines of HIPAA

  • Works with the Nurse Manager to appropriately communicate with third-party organizations relating to the operations of the clinic and patient reporting



Skills and Qualifications:   



  • - OB/GYN Clinic Experience - 10+ Years

  • Medical Assistant Certification 

  • Current CPR Certification

  • Spanish-speaking preferred

  • Basic knowledge of medical insurance, exposure control, and HIPAA compliance

  • Meets all responsibilities and ensures strict confidentiality, management of corporate, finance, personnel, and patient information, including distribution control, secure filing, disposal of records, records retention, and storage of patient information according to HIPAA Guidelines 

  • Communicates effectively, respectfully, and courteously with all contacts -- internal and external  

  • Works productively, effectively, and respectfully with diverse people 

  • Maintains current knowledge of, and complies with, organizational and departmental policies and procedures

  • Meets all applicable safety requirements for the position and work environment, including prompt incident reporting, according to Obria’s policy 

  • Uses skill and best judgment to ensure written or verbal outputs are clear, accurate, grammatical, and of appropriate tone 

  • Meets personal attendance and punctuality requirements, including but not limited to, organizing workload throughout the day to meet schedules and deadlines, meets time use policies, minimizes time spent on personal calls, personal email, and personal matters, accurately reports time and attendance 



Salary & Benefit Information:  


Compensation will be based on experience and skill set. GWG participates in a QSEHRA plan providing nontaxable funds in the amount of $250/mo towards medical expenses. GWG provides a competitive PTO schedule.
