Job Description - Occupational Health Nurse

Summary Occupational Health Nurses perform professional nursing and health care services in support of NGA's clinic operations and health and wellness programs. They collaborate with stakeholders and health care professionals to provide clinical, consultative, and administrative services in areas such as occupational health, travel health, primary diagnosis and treatment for ill and injured employees, eme Responsibilities ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: As an Occupational Health Nurse for NGA, you will have diverse and challenging opportunities in occupational health for experienced nurses who enjoy a varied practice in travel medicine, OSHA programs, acute employee health care, pre and post deployments, and emergency preparedness. You will provide a range of occupational health services, such as identifying and assessing occupational and non-occupational illness and injuries. You will also administer a full range of immunizations and provide medical information to those traveling overseas. Utilizing your experience and education, you will respond to medical emergencies, provide emergency medical assessments and interventions independently, plus inspect and maintain routine\emergency supplies and equipment. You will also be involved in implementing regular health education programs to comply with federal regulations and to meet organizational needs. This entails conducting and supporting OSHA mandated programs, administering spirometric testing, hearing exams, EKGs, etc., in addition to providing individual counseling to employees on disease prevention and health promotion. Below are activities nurses perform on a typical day: Assessing, observing, and speaking to patients Recording details and symptoms of patient medical history and current health Preparing patients for exams and treatment Administering vaccines and immunizations, then monitoring patients for side effects and reactions Creating, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans with the medical team Performing wound care, such as cleaning and bandaging them Assisting in medical procedures as needed Operating and monitoring medical equipment Drawing blood, urine samples, and other body fluids for lab work Other additional clinical and administrative duties as required. This position may be eligible for a RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE: selected candidates may be offered an incentive as part of the offer of employment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Security Investigation SPECIAL INFO: As a condition of employment at NGA, persons being considered for employment must meet NGA fitness for employment standards. - U.S. Citizenship Required - Security Clearance (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information) - Polygraph Test Required - Position Subject to Drug Testing - Two Year Probationary Period - Direct Deposit Required SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs. Employees with SCI access and who are under NGA cognizance are required to submit a Security Financial Disclosure Report, SF-714, on an annual basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Failure to comply may negatively impact continued access to Top Secret information, Information Systems, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs. NGA utilizes all processes and procedures of the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Non-executive NGA employees are assigned to five distinct pay bands based on the type and scope of work performed. The employee's base salary is established within their assigned pay band based on their unique qualifications. A performance pay process is conducted each year to determine a potential base pay salary increase and/or bonus. An employee's annual performance evaluation is a key factor in the performance pay process. Employees on term or temporary appointments are not eligible to apply for internal assignment opportunity notices. This position is a DCIPS position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601. DoD Components with DCIPS positions apply Veterans' Preference to preference eligible candidates as defined by Section 2108 of Title 5 USC, in accordance with the procedures provided in DoD Instruction 1400.25, Volume 2005, DCIPS Employment and Placement. Qualifications MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following (i.e., primary care, medical/surgical, critical care, emergency, public health, and/or occupational health nursing). 2. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following (i.e., intake assessments including extensive history and physical assessments, lab drawing, immunization administration, and/or exam room turnovers). 3. Demonstrated experience prioritizing tasks in a complex and fast paced environment. 4. Demonstrated experience communicating verbally. 5. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or equal BLS certification. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience; or a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience; or at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. - AND - LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; Prolonged periods of standing ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENT: Working around infectious persons/materials DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Demonstrated experience using standard screening and diagnostic instruments in primary care and/or occupational health setting. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: occupational health nursing principles, methods, ethics, and/or techniques. 3. Demonstrated experience entering and/or updating medical records in an electronic medical records database. 4. Demonstrated knowledge of federal rules, regulations and procedures relating to medical clearances for overseas assignments and medical examinations. Education Additional Information
