Job Description - Occupational Health Physician

Job Purpose:


Johnson Venture Management Solutions, Inc. (JVM Solutions) is recruiting a licensed Physician (MD or DO) required at the FLETC-Charleston, SC campus for a minimum of 20 hours per week. The physician provides on-site clinical leadership, direct patient care, occupational medicine oversight, and serves as the supervising physician for mid-level clinicians. A PA or NP may substitute during short absences and reasonable vacation periods; absences exceeding two weeks require COR approval in advance.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Provide direct patient care for urgent care, occupational health, and emergency response for law enforcement trainees, FLETC staff, and detailees

  • Serve as supervising physician for on-site NPs, PAs, and (at Artesia) Athletic Trainers

  • Conduct and oversee Medical Surveillance Program (MSP) histories, physicals, and surveillance testing

  • Provide physician authorization for respiratory clearance (FLETC Form 066-01-01) following spirometry testing per OSHA 1910.1001(l)(1)(ii)(A)

  • Conduct and interpret EKGs for MSP participants

  • Make final medical restriction recommendations for students and staff

  • Consult with the OEM Physician Consultant on complex occupational medicine questions

  • Serve as or designate the CLIA Waived Lab Director for this health unit

  • Prescribe from the Government-approved formulary and ensure compliance

  • Document all encounters in Government-provided SASS EMR in accepted SOAP note format

  • Respond to simultaneous in-clinic and on-campus emergencies as part of the Emergency Medical Response Team

  • Ensure AMA (Against Medical Advice) forms are completed when patients decline recommended care

  • Provide recommendations for travel clearances for injured or recovering students


Qualifications:



  • Minimum three (3) years medical field experience including urgent care within the last five (5) years

  • Valid, current DEA number

  • Professional liability insurance with no less than $1 million per claim and $3 million aggregate at all times

  • Tail coverage for minimum three (3) years following end of the contract for all claims arising from services rendered

  • Proficiency in electronic medical records; ability to document in SOAP note format

  • US Citizen or Resident Alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence; DHS background investigation required


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Board certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) strongly preferred

  • Prior experience in federal law enforcement, military, or occupational health environments

  • CAOHC certification for audiogram administration

  • Familiarity with OSHA medical surveillance and respiratory protection standards


Physical Requirements:



  • Physically capable of emergency medical response duties

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform prolonged CPR

  • Cardiovascular fitness for emergency response


Education:



  • MD or DO from LCME- or COCA-accredited school; international graduates must be ECFMG certified


Licenses/Certifications:



  • Current, valid, full, active, and unencumbered physician license in the State of South Carolina; any restriction reported immediately to employer and CO/COR

  • Board certification by ABMS, ABPS, or AOA in Family Practice, Internal Medicine (including subspecialties), Emergency Medicine, or Occupational and Environmental Medicine
