The Vermont Department of Labor exists to improve the lives of working Vermonters. The Department's Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Administration (VOSHA) enforces the OSH Act of 1970 to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses through enforcement, training, and outreach. The Vermont Department of Labor, Workplace Safety, is headquartered in Montpelier with additional locations in Burlington and Rutland. The individual will report directly to the VOSHA Chief Compliance Supervisor and work closely with the Program Manager.
The VOSHA team is a dedicated group of safety and health experts looking for someone with working knowledge in general industry safety, construction safety, or someone who has comparable and relevant safety experience. Previous experience as a CSHO is not required but extremely valuable.
The Occupational Safety Compliance Officer will conduct inspections, accident investigations, fatality investigations, recommend citations, and work directly with employers and employees. They will work directly with other employees and complete all required OSHA training courses. This individual will be professional, courteous, and direct when working with the public. Duties are generally performed in a field setting on the premises of Vermont employers. Considerable travel is involved requiring private means of transportation. There may be some degree of exposure to dangerous situations at work sites. Incumbents may be required to work on ladders or in confined spaces. Interaction with employers and employees is frequent and may involve strong adversary situations.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, industrial management or closely related field.
OR
Three (3) years or more of experience in plant safety, industrial engineering, plant maintenance engineering, or industrial work.
