Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist to join an acute care stroke rehabilitation unit in Charleston, WV, on a travel contract. The Occupational Therapist will evaluate and treat patients recovering from strokes and other neurological conditions, focusing on restoring independence, mobility, and functional skills. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and experienced in acute rehab or neurological therapy.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed evaluations to assess patients’ cognitive, motor, and functional abilities.


• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.


• Provide therapeutic interventions including ADL retraining, neuromuscular re-education, coordination, and mobility training.


• Educate patients and caregivers on therapy goals, adaptive techniques, and home exercise programs.


• Document evaluations, progress notes, and treatment sessions accurately in compliance with facility standards.


• Collaborate with physical therapy, speech therapy, and nursing teams to provide holistic stroke rehabilitation.


• Promote patient independence, safety, and quality of life through evidence-based neurological rehab practices.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.


• Current and valid Occupational Therapist license in West Virginia (or compact license).


• Minimum of 1 year of recent OT experience in acute care or stroke rehabilitation.


• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).


• COVID-19 vaccine and recent tuberculosis test.


• Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and documentation skills.


• Experience working with patients recovering from stroke or other neurological conditions preferred.
